A few months back, we shared rumors that Denver's Ben Higgins would be named the next star of ABC's The Bachelor — and late last month, we confirmed the prediction and noted that Higgins was freaking out over the announcement.

But during Labor Day festivities at Pinehurst Country Club in South Denver, he seemed cool, calm, collected and very comfortable without a shirt as he gave hugs and posed for photos with adoring fans.

Higgins was at Pinehurst to play golf with family friends and relax before leaving to film the show in Los Angeles. He also checked out kids' boats prior to the club's annual cardboard boat race. Onlookers described him as friendly, sweet and cooperative with those asking for pictures.

Such a laid-back guy might not be the best for bringing the drama to the twentieth season of the ABC show. We;ll leave that to the ladies.

It's always nice to see a celeb kicking back, Colorado style, for the long weekend. We can't wait to see Higgins in a different kind of action — and find out whether he'll bring any of the contestants home to the Mile High.

Oh yeah: When we told him we were with the paper, Higgins said, "I love the Westword, I read it all the time."

Thanks for the unsolicited (sort of) endorsement. Look below to see more pics of Higgins at Pinehurst.
