Colorado Ag Council Will Be Cooking at the Capitol Today

The 43rd annual National Ag Day, which is celebrated in classrooms and communities across the country, takes over the State Capitol today. Every year Ag Day celebrates the many contributions of the agricultural industry in America; this year's theme is "Agriculture: Stewards of a Healthy Planet." Today the forty agricultural organizations that make up the Colorado Ag Council will host Ag Day at the State Capitol, and local chefs, lawmakers and others will team up for a cook-off competition of Colorado-grown foods, then serve lunch to state legislators, farmers, ranchers and the public. Governor John Hickenlooper will be in attendance, and will be speaking during the festivities.   

“Our state’s agriculture industry and all that it does for Colorado’s people is certainly worth celebrating … not only on March 16, but year-round,” Hickenlooper said in a release. “Colorado’s $40 billion ag industry is a top two or three contributor to our state’s economy each year, employs thousands of Colorado residents, has been instrumental in leading us out of the recent recession and, most importantly, helps feed our state’s 5 million-plus people. It’s my hope you will join me and hundreds of others at Ag Day at the Capitol and take part in this well-deserved ‘thank you’ to our producers.”
