Cara Russell Identified as LoDo Shooting Victim

UPDATE Wednesday, 4:20 p.m.: The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner has confirmed that Mickey Russell was the shooter and deemed his death a suicide. The victim, Cara Russell, died from gunshot wounds. Her death has been deemed a homicide. 

UPDATE Wednesday, 11:18 a.m.: Denver Police tweeted Wednesday morning that the shooting victim has died. The coroner will soon release the identities of the victim and the shooter.

UPDATE 3:56 p.m.: Speaking to reporters at the scene of the shooting, Denver Police Department spokesman Doug Schepman confirmed that the shooter is dead from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound and one victim, a woman, was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Officers found the suspect after they entered 1536 Wynkoop Street; he was declared dead on the scene. Schepman says this was not a random shooting. 

He was unsure when roads would reopen. 

UPDATE 3:37 p.m.: Denver Police have confirmed that the 1500 block of Wynkoop is secure after clearing the building at 1536 Wynkoop. 

Police say several victims may have been transported to area hospitals after shots were fired at 15th and Wynkoop streets around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. It is unclear how many victims have been transported or if the shooter or shooters is in custody. 

Streets are closed, and the area of 15th and Wynkoop is an active crime scene. Police are asking that people avoid the area.
