  • Slattery

    Slattery's Irish Pub

5364 Greenwood Plaza Blvd. Greenwood Village, CO 80111
    303-741-2115

http://www.slatteryspublichouse.net After opening the Irish Snug on East Colfax and McLoughlin’s near LoDo, the McLoughlin brothers opened Slattery’s in the Landmark development in Greenwood Village. The guys clearly know a thing or two about running an Irish pub, and Slattery’s was designed as a public house that one might find on the streets of Dublin’s City Center. With its woodwork and stained glass, the place has a bit of an old-world vibe while still feeling modern. Slattery's serves a number of imported, domestic and local brews, and the menu features traditional Irish fare along with sandwiches and burgers. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Sloan

    Sloan's Bar & Grille

    5850 W. 25th Ave. Edgewater, CO 80214
    303-274-4244

http://www.sloansbar.com One of Edgewater’s great neighborhood bars, Sloan’s Bar & Grill has attracted a steady stream of friendly locals since it opened in 2004. But with its reclaimed furniture, historic photos of Edgewater and warm, sepia-toned decor, the newish Sloan's feels like a modern take on an old-time saloon. The grill's offerings are a step above your average pub food and include a good selection of burgers, sandwiches and house specialties such as mussels, oysters, steak, and fish and chips. But in this unlikely, friendly spot on Broadway, you can also enjoy such traditional Czech dishes as chicken paprika, mushrooms, schnitzel, potato pancakes and roast duck, as well as more standard bar fare of chili, hamburgers, wings, and French fries. • The Soiled Dove Underground

    The Soiled Dove Underground

    7401 E. 1st Ave. Denver, CO 80230
    303-366-0007

http://www.tavernhg.com/soiled_dove A huge improvement on its previous LoDo location, the newer, classier Soiled Dove was built from the ground up, with music as the focal point. Its crescent-shaped seating area was designed so that anyone seated in the 300-person-plus room would have a good line of sight. And while the sound in the LoDo Dove was great, the new Dove's system is damn near impeccable. Give these guys a standing ovation for building what might be the most comfortable place to see a show. Definitely reason enough to make the trek out to Lowry and hear this Dove sing. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Solids & Stripes Badass Billiards

    Solids & Stripes Badass Billiards

2046 Larimer St. Denver, CO 80205
    303-308-9999

After running Tarantula Billiards for close to a decade, Ami Benair opened the hipper, classier ZanZBar in the Ballpark neighborhood near the end of 2009, in the former Market Central space. former resident of Manhattan, Benair gave the pool hall/bar/restaurant a New York vibe, complete with a giant replica of the Statue of Liberty's crown. But a few years into ZanZBar's run, business started going south, and in December 2012, Jon Taffer and Spike TV's Bar Rescue crew revamped and updated the venue, redid the food and drink menus, and changed the moniker to & Stripes Badass Billiards. Southern Sun Brewery

    627 S. Broadway Boulder, CO 80305
    303-543-0886

http://www.mountainsunpub.com The Mountain Sun group channels the spirit of those college roommates who maintained a constant house party, complete with a keg and a rotating roster of friends. The three pubs are a front for a microbrewery, and they each maintain a line of about twenty taps for the Sun's own solid, award-winning craft beers. During happy hour, hippies, hikers and lawn-game enthusiasts can indulge in $3 pints of heady IPAs and nitro stouts, supplemented by bar fare that pragmatically provides both bacon and beer-baked tempeh for the conscious eaters who frequent these establishments. • Spanky

    Spanky's Roadhouse

    1800 E. Evans Ave. Denver, CO 80210
    303-733-6886

http://www.spankysroadhouse.com When Spanky's Roadhouse, a faux roadhouse complete with grime, first started flipping burgers in the University of Denver neighborhood, it was a fresh concept and a welcome addition to the area. Today it's part of a group that also owns Reiver's and the Dusty Boot restaurants, and everything it serves seems pretty standard and fairly tired: Colorado brews including Coors Light and Fat Tire, cheap wells and a standard bar menu. The place is dark, even in the daytime, but the shadows mask the bar-room grit that seems to be etched into every surface. Which is to say that it has a friendly, old-time neighborly feel and is often half-full of twenty-somethings putting their student schedule to good use. Spanky's also offers a Wisconsin-style fish fry every Friday and Saturday, and hosts Geeks Who Drink on Wednesdays. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Sports Column

    Sports Column

1930 Blake St. Denver, CO 80202
    303-296-1930

http://www.denversportscolumn.com On game nights, patrons pack the Sports Column for beers and sports, loudly cheering their favorite teams over a raucous crowd. When the sporting event isn't Colorado-local, twenty- and thirty-somethings resort to the games scattered around the spot, trivia nights or the rooftop deck. Though the Sports Column is decidedly more concentrated on sports than food, the spot does offer a menu of American classics, satiating drinkers in the vast, open bar room with burgers, fries and nachos. Late-night happy hours, frequent drink specials and its LoDo location make the bar a popular - and therefore always crowded - stop in Denver. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Spot Bar & Grill

    Spot Bar & Grill

    98 S. Pennsylvania St. Denver, CO 80209
    303-733-1299

http://www.spotbarandgrill.com The value of a bar's cleanliness is often overlooked until you walk into a place like the Spot, where the shining liquor bottles and dustless corners pleasantly stick out. The pub's arched and mirrored back bar make the tiny joint look larger than life, and its variety of high-end booze and handful of beers on tap offer something for every drinker. A TV or two hangs inconspicuously from the ceiling, and while this is definitely the place to catch a game, the atmosphere is relatively sports-neutral, welcoming sports fans and non-sports fans alike to come in and kick back. The patio is covered and heated, the staff is top-notch, and the menu aims high above typical bar food, promising the Spot's legacy will continue long past the decade and a half it has already been open. • Sputnik

    Sputnik

    7 S. Broadway Denver, CO 80229
    720-570-4503

http://www.sputnikdenver.com Located in the music-friendly Baker neighborhood, Sputnik serves as a spot to get the party started before the show or to recap the events after one. Located next door to the hi-dive, Sputnik is frequented by touring bands -- hoping to fill the hunger void with a PBR and a corn dog -- and local rockers hoping to get their band on the bill or an application to work the door. On Thursday nights, Sputnik hosts "What We Do Is Secret," as DJ Dirtbag plays classic punk bands like the Buzzcocks, Dead Milkmen and the Wipers, with a little Wu-Tang Clan for flavor. If all the partying during the week has you feeling a little hazy, Sputnik has you covered with a hangover brunch daily til 3 p.m., featuring breakfast burritos, egg tacos and the life-giving Hangover Scramble, served alongside $3 Bloody Mary's and $2 Mimosas. • Squeeze Inn

    Squeeze Inn

    5395 W. 48th Ave. Denver, CO 80212
    303-458-6440

If you're not looking for the Squeeze Inn, it's likely you'll drive right past the tiny drink shack and its barely visible sign. But once you make your way into this single-room lounge with checker-tiled floors and red vinyl seats, you'll never forget it. Set at the back of a wide-open lot, the one-time burger joint and husband hideout has been in operation since the late 1950s, serving up nothing fancy -- just beer and plain cocktails. A jukebox and a TV or two can be found in the clean and brightly lit establishment, but it's obvious that it's the conversation patrons come in for. Frozen pizza is the only thing currently on the menu, but that's set to change this summer, when the miniature bar's back kitchen gets cooking again and the freshly poured concrete patio is open for business. • The Squire Lounge

    The Squire Lounge

    1800 E. Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80203
    303-333-9106

There are few legendary dives left in Denver, and the Squire is one of them. Nestled into the corner of Williams and Colfax, the sprawling Squire caters to anyone who wants to take in the sights and sounds. It's all in a day's work -- emphasis on day -- in the large space, where windows let in ample light to shine upon the long shuffleboard table, foosball field and mural of Colfax's icons (above the weirdly located booths). By night, the crowd loosens up a bit -- especially on the weekends, or on the Squire's now-famous Tuesday comedy night -- to include all ages and backgrounds. But, yes, even on the busiest night, there's still a pretty good chance you will hear a dude talking to himself while he drinks his cheap Bud. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Stadium Inn

    Stadium Inn

    1701 E. Evans Ave. Denver, CO 80210
    303-733-4031

Be it fact or folklore, the Stadium Inn claims to sell more Jim Beam per square foot than any other bar in the country. This stat means $2 Beam drinks and shots all day, every day. It also means that each October, the first fifty lushes to sample all seven varieties of Beam that the bar offers receive a Degree of Bourbonology, an honor confirmed the following January in a cap-and-gown ceremony and other shenanigans. With these wallet-friendly (and resume-building) incentives, how can you afford not to wander into (and later stumble out of) the Stadium Inn for some cheap, cheap Beam?
