http://www.challengersbar.com As the name might suggest, Challenger's is a sports bar, featuring flat-screen LCD TVs liberally adorning the walls so you can cheer on the Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies or Avs -- as well as national and international sports teams -- from all over the venue. The seating is open, affording unobstructed views of the on-screen action, and there are pool tables to occupy patrons during lulls. Challenger's also offers a private patio for smokers and fans of al fresco dining and drinking. If you're hungry, the wings are definitely the best deal here -- especially during happy hour, when they're 30 cents. They come tossed in any of eight different sauces, from Cajun to barbecue to hot to really hot. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
About a year and a half after opening Cheapskates Action Sports Bar in Olde Town Arvada, Ryan Galbraith and Chris Stinson, who have worked in the action-sports industry for years, opened a second location in Aurora. This outlet, which is much larger than the original, offers a number of features intrinsic to traditional sports bars: flat-screen TVs, sports memorabilia, a jukebox full of classic-rock selections. But the televisions are tuned to very different sports, like BMX, motocross, snowboarding and skiing, and the customers are not your typical sports-bar regulars, either. From the great outside patio, Emerald Isle has a biker bar/roadhouse vibe - but inside, there's a total role reversal, with a pleasant dining room and bar, caricatures of regulars on the walls and friendly service. The music is good (if Metallica and '90s alterna-metal is your thing), and the food can be great: Americanized Mexican, with killer avocado-and-bacon cheeseburgers and smothered chimichangas that take up an entire plate. http://www.fatboys-sportsbar.com There's no typifying the fare at Fat Boy's. The sheer size of the bar and grill's menu matches its name, with dishes that range from salads to seafood, burritos to full barbecue platters. Happily, Fat Boy's doesn't charge according to the breadth of its menu; plates average around $9. The bar includes a digital jukebox, two pool tables, a spacious patio for smokers and a daily offering of drink specials -- deals that apply to beers on tap as well as frozen drinks. With two distinct sections, the ambience at Fat Boy's is somewhere between a family restaurant and a standard neighborhood bar. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
The Frontier Club offers the feel of a bygone era, a time when farmers populated the eastern stretches of the metro area. The bar sits between the fringes of older, suburban Aurora and clusters of recent development to the west, giving it the feel of a friendly, relaxed outpost on the edge of urban chaos. The spacious bar boasts pool tables, shuffleboard, a dance floor and even a battered piano. With live country and rock on Friday and Saturday nights and a constant stream of local sports games on its big-screen TV, the owners aim to keep customers occupied. Add the bar's signature burgers and burritos to the mix, as well as its family-friendly karaoke on Thursdays, and it's an ideal place to escape suburbia without driving too far. http://www.gibbysbar.com Gibby's is first and foremost a sports bar, and it draws a wide range of fans, which gives it a welcoming feel. Whatever your sports affiliation, chances are you'll find some kin at the bar, around the pool tables or at the foosball table in the back. On weekdays and during the off-season, Gibby's still offers plenty of amenities for bar-goers, including poker tournaments, karaoke and in-house DJs. The bar complements its selection with a fairly substantial roster of food items: Mexican, American and miscellaneous bar staples are available. There's also a breakfast menu on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.hooters.com/home.aspx Home of the double entendre, the Hooters chain has become an American icon over the course of its short life. Founded in Florida during the glorious 1980s, the company with a hooting owl for a logo boasts its own magazine, a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, and famous alumni like Hugh Hefner's former girlfriend Holly Madison. The Hooters girls at each of the 450 locations are the heart and soul (or is it the "T and A"?) of the company; from the American Midwest to the Czech Republic to Tokyo, every girl sports the same bright orange short-shorts, flesh-colored pantyhose and white sneakers. Perhaps it could be the food that keeps loyal Denver / Boulder customers coming back. The menu focuses on chicken wings, with sauces ranging from mild to atomic, but there are also seasoned curly fries, shrimp, oysters, crab legs, burgers, and sandwiches, along with plenty of televisions tuned to whatever's going on in the sports world. Check out your local Hooters on Voice Places. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.thekasbahdenver.com The $3 cover charge at the Kasbah on a Sunday night gets you the chance to hear live covers of the best in '70s-era funk, old-school R&B and a bit of modern, groove-informed hip-hop. It's a selection that encapsulates the spirit of the place, with its dim lighting, plush couches and nostalgic atmosphere. The Sunday band performances are complemented by karaoke on Thursdays, a DJ spinning modern R&B and hip-hop on Saturdays and more live music on Fridays. Add the bar's specials, which include weekly deals on Hennessy and Svedka vodka, and you've got a relaxed atmosphere that's both modern and kitschy. The Kasbah has established itself as a diverse venue offering a full bar and a lunch buffet on the weekends. The weekly spoken-word event on Wednesdays rounds out its entertainment lineup. The Majestic Saloon somehow feels larger than the modest space it occupies in a strip mall off Parker Road. There's a lot packed into the place: pool tables, a jukebox, a shuffleboard table and a small stage that hosts weekly karaoke sessions and occasional live performances. The bar's menu is equally ambitious and boasts a relatively wide array of Mexican dishes, appetizers and standard bar staples at reasonable prices. The place draws a largely local crowd, visitors from the nearby suburban Aurora neighborhoods who lend the Majestic a casual, relaxed feel. While it also pulls in an occasional biker or rowdy crowd on weekends, at its heart it feels like a calm, predictable neighborhood bar. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
Considering its tropical theme, the Maya Sports Bar and Grill occupies an unlikely spot in north Aurora. Sitting in front of the abandoned Fan Fare building, the Maya does its best to stand apart from its somewhat colorless surroundings, with its brightly colored tropical signs and its constant schedule of live DJs spinning Latino pop. With a standard bar selection and a menu marked by Central American and Mexican cuisine, the Maya offers an ideal spot to dance to Latin American music and take advantage of great beer specials. http://www.mccabesbistroandpub.com It's easy to get disoriented at McCabe's Irish Pub, and the bar's sprawling, two-story layout is only partly responsible for that effect. The painstaking attention paid to Irish authenticity in McCabe's food and drink menu is what's truly dizzying. From delectable dishes like shepherd's pie and fish and chips to hard-to-find brews like Kilkenny Cream Stout, the menu shoots for Gaelic purity at every level. Beyond the menu, McCabe's owners have worked hard to distinguish the bar's ambience from its setting in the Southlands shopping mall. With hardwood bars on both levels and massive portraits of Irish literary giants like Wilde and Yeats keeping watch over the bar's booths, it's easy to feel transported. What's more, with the proximity of Buckley Air Force Base, the bar draws a rich variety of regulars, including British ex-pats looking for a taste of home. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.mccarthysbng.com Wandering around McCarthy's Bar and Grill can be disorienting. The spacious bar and restaurant, located in the Smoky Hill neighborhood of eastern Aurora, has a lot going on: There's the large dance floor, the walk-up bar and restaurant section, and a front dining room that doubles as a Texas Hold 'Em poker space several times during the week. In keeping with its theme as an intimate Irish-style pub, the owners have included nods to the Emerald Isle on their menu: The Irish Nachos run less than $10. The rest of the food and drink menu comprises standard bar fare, regular happy hours and staples that include hamburgers, Mexican plates and appetizers under $15. The bar tends to attract an older, adult crowd from the nearby suburbs, but live rock shows on Fridays bring in younger patrons. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
Despite the fancy statues, colorful paintings and formal decor in the dining room, this small bar off Parker Road is a lot less assuming than its initial appearance would have you think. With a menu marked by traditional dishes such as chicken Kiev, beef stroganoff and shish kabob, the Mirage's real draw is in its old-world, folksy charm. The establishment is family owned and operated, and it shows in the intimate, immediate atmosphere. With a clientele that's largely Russian, the Mirage also boasts a unique and exotic feel. While the dining room is modestly sized, the restaurant offers a stage and a dance floor for private parties and karaoke. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
At this Aurora sports-bar-cum-live-music haunt, an eye-catching death-metal art backdrop hangs behind the tiny stage to remind you where you are. MVP's dance floor serves as spillout area for bands unable to fit on the stage -- which is most of them. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.buffbrothers.net While its name is a reference to Caddyshack caddy Danny Noonan, this tavern at the Club at Heather Ridge isn't necessarily themed after the film. Yes, the joint's house drink is the Danny Noonan, but that's about as far as it goes. Since Noonan's is right on the gold course, it has a built-in customer base with the golfers, but it also attracts a lot of folks in nearby condominium complexes. Noonan's is part of the B.U.F.F. Brothers group of bars and restaurants, but it's more of a neighborhood watering hole and less sports-oriented than the Brothers' other places, like FuNuGyz in Parker or Ralphie's in Louisville. Not to worry, though: There are still plenty of flat-screen TVs to catch the sports action. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.oldchicago.com In this day and age, Old Chicago locations are common enough across the country that many diners have forgotten this chain's humble beginnings: It got its start not in Chicago -- or anywhere else in Illinois, for that matter -- but in Boulder, in 1976. Old Chicago is part of the Rock Bottom line of restaurants, and beer features heavily on the menu; the bar has 110 kinds available at any given time. The pizza is another draw, served Chicago-style, original or thin crust, with signature toppings and build-your-own options. The rest of the menu is about what you'd expect from a pizza-heavy, beer-centric venue: burgers, pasta, calzones, starters and salads. But for dessert, you can't miss with the renowned Big Cookie. http://www.parkwaybarandgrill.com The Parkway Bar and Grill is on the southeastern fringes of Aurora, close to where suburban civilization ends and the plains begin. For its somewhat isolated setting, however, the Parkway boasts a surprisingly hip and urban feel. The atmosphere is somewhere between a chic downtown bar and a friendly-family grill; a sleek, massive bar shares space with a cozy dining room and a section set aside for pool tables. Posters bearing images of local sports icons, film stars and the Three Stooges line the walls. There's plenty to distract you here, including a steady schedule of karaoke, Texas Hold 'Em competitions and sports games, plus fifteen HD televisions and a Golden Tee Golf game. http://www.rackem-billiards.com Entering Rack 'Em Billiards and Sports Club feels a little like gaining access to some kind of illicit speakeasy. First, there's finding the entrance of the place, tucked away in the back of a strip mall, behind a restaurant. Then there's the task of actually descending the stairs to the pool hall itself, a spacious room that features a dim bar, a wall of dartboards and, of course, pool tables. That's the true draw here. Rack 'Em has enough tables to match its traffic. A regular rotation of league players frequent the hall, but there always seems to be plenty of space for drop-ins. http://www.royalhilltop.com Owners James and Tina Pachorek did something brilliant when they opened this small, family-oriented British-style pub in the far reaches of eastern Aurora: They created a casual, laid-back, non-threatening restaurant that people want to return to. The menu, while lacking the glitz and style of trendier eateries, is filled with soul-satisfying pub food - bangers and mash, shepherd's pie with stout gravy, fish fry every night of the week - and the bar is well-stocked. Huskers haters, beware: The Sand Creek Lounge is a proud bastion for Nebraska fans, an allegiance that comes directly from one of the owners. The small suburban pub also hosts a diverse crowd of sports fans -- boosters that include both Broncos lovers and Raiders followers. The bar's regulars come for more than the televised sports games. Sand Creek boasts a championship dart team and a regular pool league, features that make the space a constant buzz of activity. With regular Saturday-night steak specials and karaoke contests throughout the week, the lounge draws a wide range of customers, a largely local base that fluctuates in age depending on the time of day. While the family-owned bar boasts daily specials, Sand Creek's real appeal is in its boisterous and intimate feel. If you're willing to mingle with the regulars, it won't take long to be incorporated into the crowd, no matter what your sports affiliation. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.sheabeenirishpub.com The Sheabeen Irish Pub offers plenty of decor to match its Gaelic namesake. Maps of Ireland, vintage wooden Guinness placards and green flags dot the walls, and a poster from one of the first Colorado Irish Festivals bears a signature from Irish folk legend Tommy Makem. The authentic feel of the bar goes beyond its decorations, however, which is all the more remarkable considering its location in an anonymous strip mall in Aurora. Since 1989, the Sheabeen's owners have worked to make the suburban bar stand out, regularly hosting Irish musicians and holding Celtic festivals in the parking lot. The bar often features classic-rock bands, and the clientele is largely composed of Aurora locals. Still, Sheabeen has managed to keep the feel of a small Irish pub, a place where bartenders pour the Guinness carefully and turn shots of Jameson into works of art. As one of the state's oldest Irish bars, Sheabeen also holds a historic appeal. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
