  • Pumphouse Brewery & Restaurant

    Pumphouse Brewery & Restaurant

540 Main St. Longmont, CO 80501
303-702-0881 This local brewpub is one of the best hangout spots in Longmont. The beers are a big reason why: Pumphouse has a dozen or so beers on tap, everything from Flashpoint IPA and Shockwave Scottish Ale to special seasonal beers. But the food is also a real draw, with a menu that includes appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches and an astonishing array of burgers. You can get the spicy Flame Thrower (habanero-chipotle sauce, sauteed jalapenos and gorgonzola), the Chumley's Classic (a basic cheeseburger), or an all-natural chicken or buffalo, house-ground turkey or garden burger instead. • Road 34 Bike Bar

    Road 34 Bike Bar

1213 W. Elizabeth St. Fort Collins, CO 80521
970-221-3434 Originally a bike shop that opened in 2003, Road 34 morphed into a bike bar two years later, making it the first true bike bar in the world, according to its website. By bikes, we mean bicycles, which the spot still sells and has hanging from the ceiling. Road 34 is also a deli, tavern and a happening spot for live music in Fort Collins, bringing in a steady stream of local bands and acts from other parts of the state, as well as the occasional national act. • The Rocky Club Lounge

  • The Speakeasy

301 Main St. Longmont, CO 80501
303-709-6777 The Speakeasy doesn’t feel like the kind of spot you’d find in Longmont; with its exposed-brick walls and chandeliers, it feels more like New York or Chicago. (As evidenced by its name, the owner was going for a Prohibition-era theme.) The underground club, which includes a game room and a live-music room, brings in live jazz and blues acts on the weekends and hosts karaoke and open-mic nights during the week. • Surfside 7

    Surfside 7

150 N. College Ave. Fort Collins, CO 80524
970-221-4281 Though the Hawaii Five-0 surf motif is flogged mercilessly here -- with decorated surfboards and a tiki-hut bar -- Surfside 7 in Old Town Fort Collins offers some of the hippest rock and punk music this side of 1979. The place is tightly packed and loud, with friendly punks spilling out of the booths at all hours. The jukebox is stocked with a decent selection of punk and rock CDs, so even when bands aren’t playing, the Surfside is still a great place to grab a beer, an exotic specialty drink or a slice of New York-style pizza. • The Swing Station

    The Swing Station

    3311 W. County Road 54G Laporte, CO 80535

The Swing Station feels like the type of place you'd find in the middle of nowhere -- which is exactly where it's located. Its down-home feeling is accentuated by a bright pine bar with ample seating. In fact, the whole bar is covered in bright colors, a welcome change from the usual dark atmosphere found in most venues. It's a traditional cowboy honky-tonk, with live, classic Americana music at least five nights a week on an outdoor stage during the summer and an indoor stage for the winter months. It's not unusual to spot cowboy boots or a ten-gallon hat, and it likewise wouldn't be surprising to see a horse tied up outside. The Swing Station is also a community hangout, and one of the few bars where children are welcome and don't seem out of place. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • Tasty Weasel Tap Room

    Tasty Weasel Tap Room

1800 Pike Road Longmont, CO 80501
303-776-1914 It’s no surprise that Oskar Blues, one of the most beloved craft breweries in the state, is responsible for the Tasty Weasel Tap Room, one of the most beloved tap rooms in Colorado. Between the tournament-style Skee-Ball lanes (there are regular team sign-ups for tournaments), the frequent live music, free daily tours of the brewery facilities, free Wi-Fi, the Tasty Weasel’s very own food truck (the Oskar Blues BoneWagon) and the whiskey-barrel bar tables, there are many reasons that people flock to this tap room. But the biggest one, of course, is the beer, including twice-weekly releases of small-batch Oskar Blues brews that you can’t find anywhere except for the Tasty Weasel. And the loyalty-club perks alone justify the trip to Longmont. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>

  • TI Bar

109 E. Laurel St. Fort Collins, CO 80524

  • Washington

    Washington's Sports Bar & Grill

132 Laporte Ave. Fort Collins, CO 80524
970-484-3989 Since the late '70s. Washington's Sports Bar in Old Town Fort Collins has been a popular spot with CSU students, regulars and families; they all come to grab a beer and a burger, catch a game on on the bar's many TVs, or play pool and air hockey or board and arcade games. On the weekends, the place turns into a dance party with DJs, and during the week, there are poker and trivia nights. The menu includes bar-food staples such as wings, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks and barbecue sandwiches. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
