http://www.12volttavern.com Nestled amid the quiet, small-town charm of Olde Town Arvada, the 12 Volt Tavern is a gritty hole-in-the-wall rock club with no frills or fuss, just good music, cheap drinks and plenty of local punk and rock acts to keep your ears ringing for days. The Tavern may seem out of place among its better-groomed neighbors, but its well-worn character is completely authentic, providing a choice spot for punks and blue-collar barflies to congregate over drinks and games of pool. During the week, the Volt's killer jukebox spits out cuts by Sabbath, Zep, the Clash, Sex Pistols and Hank Williams. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
You'd think with a name like the Balloon Inn, the place would be decked out in a bunch of clown and circus memorabilia. But this spacious, no-frills dive bar in an Arvada strip mall leans more toward sports, if anything. Framed photos of Broncos players hang above the bar, and there are a number of TVs to catch all the action, as well as three shuffleboard tables and a few pool tables. With its wood paneling and weathered bar stools, the place feels comfortably worn. On the weekends, the Balloon fills up with a friendly set of Arvada regulars. http://www.barlouieamerica.com Long a staple in the Midwest, the Bar Louie chain has landed in Colorado. At the Shops at Northfield, Bar Louie is the perfect spot for a mid-shopping beer; it also makes a great holding pen for husbands waiting out a long run by their significant others. The menu features such bar standards as wings and burgers, but Bar Louie separates itself from other national behemoths by featuring an all-day brunch, a late-night kitchen and many deals throughout the week, especially on Sunday. With an indoor fire pit, flat screen tvs and the occasional live band, Bar Louie has something for everyone. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.benderswestminster.com Not to be confused with Bender's Tavern in Capitol Hill, Bender's Bar & Grill in Westminster is a completely different scene. While the word "bender" usually evokes some sort of vice-filled spree, the name of this place, which was formerly Jackson's All-American Sports Grill, refers more to folks who bend their ankles while ice skating. Fitting, since this hockey-themed sports bar overlooks the Ice Centre at the Promenade. It's the ideal spot to catch a hockey game on any of the numerous flat-screen TVs hanging throughout the spacious bar. While the grownups might come to watch the games, Bender's also has a number of arcade games for the kids. The kitchen serves a full menu that includes wings, steak, pasta, pizzas, burgers and sandwiches. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.blitz-sports-bar.com Blitz Sports Bar moved into this Westminster strip-mall space following the departure of Captain Jack's Saloon, which had been there for five years ― and with the exception of a Captain Morgan statue, the pirate theme is pretty much gone. But the table that hosts regular poker tournaments at one end of the space is still there, as is the small stage that features live music, DJs, trivia and karaoke nights throughout the week. The rest of the room is simple and straightforward: tables and chairs for drinkers looking for staples like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Budweiser. http://www.buffalowildwings.com Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 when a guy from Buffalo, New York traveled to Ohio to judge an amateur figure skating competition and failed to find any wings that measured up to the ones at home. Now B-Dubs, as it likes to call itself, has spread to nearly every state in the U.S. with more than 600 locations, including Denver / Boulder, where it's easy to find on Voice Places. The yellow-and-black logo features a buffalo that has sprouted majestic wings, but make no mistake--it's strictly chicken here, available in regular or boneless varieties in 21 flavors from Garlic Parmesan and Caribbean Jerk to Asian Zing and the simply named but much feared Blazin'. Every location features a plethora of televisions for your sports-watching needs and a plentiful selection of beer on tap. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.cbpotts.com Buttface Amber is the name of a lager served to the business-class crowd at C.B. & Potts; it's made by the Bighorn Brewery, housed within the Broomfield bar, where sports TV, trivia games and unique microbrews are the favored forms of entertainment. Sure, there are a few boat steering wheels and photos of boats hanging up around the place, but that's pretty much where the nautical theme ends at Castaways. Despite its name, the lounge is a far cry from being an homage to Gilligan's Island. Rather, it's a decent-sized neighborhood joint for folks who are serious about their sports and pool. Well, that and karaoke. A lot of customers come down for karaoke on the weekends, when the joint can be especially lively. The drinks here are fairly priced and the regulars are welcoming. http://www.facebook.com/cheapskatesbar After working in the action-sports industry for years and setting a Guinness World Record for longest journey on a mini-motorcycle, Ryan Galbraith and Chris Stinson have now embarked on a different journey: Cheapskates Actions Sports Bar, which opened May 2011 in the former home of Bliss Cafe, 7501 Grandview Avenue in Arvada. The partners gutted the space and did the construction work themselves to create a bar that celebrates the growing action-sports scene in Colorado, which Galbraith considers a mecca for everything from dirt bikes and mountain bikes to skiing and snowboarding. http://www.thecheekymonk.com Not only is the Cheeky Monk a destination restaurant for all you European beer snobs looking for unpronounceable brews made by monks who've dedicated their lives to Jesus and zymurgy, but it also happens to be a great place to sample the rather unique cuisine of the Benelux -- all mussels and frites and sausages and some of the best sauerkraut ever made. You can thank the folks who brought us a true Brit pub in Aurora -- the Royal Hilltop -- for this cheeky concept. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.daveandbusters.com You have to admit it: Dave & Buster's has fun nailed down. Yes, it's a chain (with fifty locations across the country). But, come on, where else can you drink and play video games besides in your mom's basement? What's more, you can eat here: burgers, pasta, steaks, ribs, "big salads" and a laundry list of starters on an all-American menu. Located in the Westminster Promenade, this D&B's might be just the place to stop for a cocktail and a game when you're on your way to or from Boulder. Not only can you get gigantic beers, margaritas and other mixed concoctions, but you can enjoy them on special during one of their TWO happy hours. During the early happy hour video game lovers can enjoy the "Power Hour" with 60 minutes of video game play for only $10. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
With its pseudo-adobe exterior, Davie's Locker looks like a dive you might find in downtown Albuquerque and not necessarily in Westminster. There's a yellow sign outside that reads, "You're entering the twilight zone." Indeed, Davies can put your head in a bit of a haze if you're looking to get your drink on. The place has been around for more than three decades, and in case you forget, the bar is inundated with beers signs, mirrors and flags to remind you. Some of the regulars might be a bit rough around the edges, but that's part of the place's charm. Depending on what your definition of "twilight zone" is, this could be your nirvana. http://www.electriccowboydenver.com While there aren't a whole lot of country bars near or even in Denver, the main ones are all huge spots -- and the Electric Cowboy, which is part of a national chain of country bars, is no exception. The place sports a massive dance floor, which can get packed on the weekends and on ladies' night, and also offers dance lessons. While the bar obviously attracts a lot of dudes sporting cowboy hats and boots, it also brings in a fair amount of other locals from the surrounding Westminster and Arvada areas. And for those who aren't huge country fans, DJs also occasionally toss in Top 40 tunes. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.hiccupssportsbar.com Hot bartenders and waitresses wearing ass-less chaps with their panties: It seems like a gimmick. But it's just one of the things that keep guys coming back to this Westminster sports bar. Well, that and live music on the weekends, a decent-sized checkered dance floor, cheep beer, pool, karaoke and a large patio. A working-class neighborhood bar and grill for the most part, Hiccups also attracts a fair amount of bikers, but the crowd is a bit more diverse during its beer pong tournaments three nights a week. The spot serves standard bar food and offers daily specials on cheeseburgers, smothered burritos, wings, chicken-fried steak and chicken tenders. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
http://www.jakesroadhouse.com There's no mistaking that Jake's Roadhouse is biker-friendly, and the emphasis here is on the "friendly." Sure, you're bound to see a fair amount of black leather vests on any given day, especially the weekends, but the bikers come to have a good time and to take advantage of the Roadhouse's massive patio, which has its own beer garden. This Arvada spot is also a great place to catch live music, as it brings in rock and blues bands Friday through Sunday. Jake's also sports a full kitchen that serves a variety of cheese steaks, as well as burgers, sandwiches and wings. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
Located next to the Elvis Cinema in the corner of an Arvada strip mall, the Madrid Lounge got its start back in the '70s, when it used to bring in bands. The kitchen still turns out Chinese and American food (despite the name, you won't find any tapas here), which makes this cozy suburban spot a good choice for a drink, a meal, some music -- or all of the above. http://www.oldchicago.com In this day and age, Old Chicago locations are common enough across the country that many diners have forgotten this chain's humble beginnings: It got its start not in Chicago -- or anywhere else in Illinois, for that matter -- but in Boulder, in 1976. Old Chicago is part of the Rock Bottom line of restaurants, and beer features heavily on the menu; the bar has 110 kinds available at any given time. The pizza is another draw, served Chicago-style, original or thin crust, with signature toppings and build-your-own options. The rest of the menu is about what you'd expect from a pizza-heavy, beer-centric venue: burgers, pasta, calzones, starters and salads. But for dessert, you can't miss with the renowned Big Cookie. http://www.oldetowntavernandgrill.com Olde Town Tavern's slogan, "Real Food, Authentic People, Genuine Fun," pretty much sums up the no-frills Olde Town Arvada watering hole. The spot attracts a wide variety of regulars, ranging from the college set to octogenarians, depending on the day. And while it's always a decent spot to catch a game on one of its many TVs, the bar livens up quite a bit on the weekends, with live music on Fridays and karaoke on Saturdays. The standard pub-grub menu includes a number of appetizer options, soups and salads, sandwiches, Mexican, pizza and burgers. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
Tucked away in a strip mall off 64th Avenue and Ward Road, the Ralston Lounge has been a longtime Arvada fixture. The no-frills neighborhood joint attracts a fair number of easygoing regulars to its early-morning happy hours, and with its nondescript furnishings, it feels like not a whole lot has changed here in the last few decades, which is a big part of the Ralston's charm. Entertainment options include a jukebox, a few pool tables and pinball machines, and there's a small dance floor and a tiny stage that hosts karaoke on the weekends. The lounge doesn't have a full menu, but if you ask nicely, they'll heat up a frozen pizza for you. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
If you're itching to sound off, the best karaoke nights in town are at a spot hidden away on a Westminster building's backside (thus the moniker, we presume). But with its elevated stage, overhead screen displaying the words from your choice of thousands of songs, and an enthusiastic audience of friendly, easygoing neighborhood regulars, the Rear Inn is way ahead of the rest of the karaoke pack. And since not everybody knows about this every-night-of-the-week karaoke night (yet!), you'll have plenty of opportunity to play the rock star that we know you are. http://www.rockabilliesbar.com With checkered floors, an Elvis jukebox, a wall-sized Johnny Cash mural, and framed black-and-white photos of Hank Williams, Elvis and '50s hot rods hanging on the other walls, Rock-A-Billies is obviously geared toward folks who love rockabilly culture. Housed in the former Cucina Roma Roma restaurant spot in a strip mall at 64th Avenue and Ward Road, Rock-A-Billies is one of the few live-music venues in the area, bringing in rockabilly, blues and rock bands on Fridays and Saturdays. It also boasts a full kitchen that serves burgers, sandwiches, barbecue and steaks. Read more about this Denver bar or club >>
