Tea Pot Lounge

Tea Pot Lounge

I looked at about a dozen different flowers, including a beautifully frosty and sweet Black Ice OG, some decent Super Silver Haze and the same Super Silver Haze/OG cross dubbed Kizzle that the Cannasseur developed.
Groundswell

Groundswell

Some cuts looked better than others, like the NYC Diesel and the Berry Skunk, but most looked well-dried and cured -- healthy buds from a medium-sized warehouse.
Top Shelf Alternatives

Top Shelf Alternatives

Top Shelf Alternatives also had two special strains, Blacktooth Grin and Lavender, at $15 per gram all the way up. I got a good look at both, and neither seemed to be of any better quality than the rest of the items on the shelf.

La Conte's Clone Bar and Dispensary

5194 Washington St. Denver, CO 80216
    303-292-2252

http://lacontescbd.com In 2014, La Conte's took second place at the High Times Cannabis Cup. The shop also offers a pretty much no-questions-asked return policy on clones; if you manage to kill it in the first thirty days, you can bring it in for an exchange. La Conte's has also ventured into seed production and now sells its own beans, both recreational and medical. The space has been remodeled so that the shop can serve both recreational and medical marijuana customers at the same time. The bud bar now runs the length of the shop from front to back; it's divided, with recreational herb on the left half and medical on the right. Not all of what the dispensary sells is Cup-quality, but it's one of the coolest dispensary spaces in Colorado, and it deserves style points for the way it was converted from a dingy drunk tank into a dispensary that feels like it's been around for decades. • Lightshade Labs

    Lightshade Labs

    3950 N. Holly St. Denver, CO 80216
    303-468-6100

http://lightshade.com For such a big shop, the exterior of Lightshade Labs is low-key. The shop is in a blue-collar neighborhood just a few blocks east of the Park Hill Golf Club, on a commercial stretch of Holly Street. Above the entrance, the owners have posted a quote from one of the most well-known doctors in marijuana, Dr. Dre: "Smoke weed every day." The waiting room feels like the golf-lounge room of a pot-themed country club. Nice, clean purple-suede and green-leather chairs are set up around a pair of matching coffee tables, creating two small waiting areas that both face a huge flat-screen TV. Marijuana-movie posters are framed around the wall, and along the exposed-brick wall in back is a retro tabletop video-game system loaded with arcade classics of yesteryear –- including Pac-Man, of course. The shop also has a fully functioning Coke fountain, with stacks of cups for patients to use for free, or a hotelstyle coffee/tea/hot-chocolate dispenser. And for stoners' constant munchies, there are bowls of candy and an old-time popcorn machine. Lightshade's dispensary is connected to its grow, and the owners have even put a small window into one of the rooms with vegetating plants and clones along the back wall of the waiting room. The bud bar is done up similarly to the waiting room, with heavy wood cabinets, exposed-brick walls and dramatic, bright lighting on the bud counters and stock jars on the shelves. Loose bud is kept on display for viewing, with larger amounts of herb kept in tall, cylindrical jars on shelves along the back wall. More >>

    Lightshade Labs

    11975 40th Ave. Denver, CO 80239
    720-974-7220

http://lightshade.com This location is the second for Lightshade Labs, which also operates out of the former Heartland Dispensary location north of the Park Hill Golf Course. There's a small waiting room up front painted bright white, with a few magazines strewn about on a table. To the right are a water fountain and an ATM, though the store also accepts credit cards. The receptionist area seems to take up more of the space than the customer bud bar does, but the counters everywhere give the place a clean, retail feel -- like H&M selling Sour Diesel. The ganja stock is pre-weighed in plastic bags, and edibles are kept along the back wall, hung up on pegs and displayed here and there along the counter. Pre-weighed pot aside, Lightshade seems to be picking up where Heartland left off: The herb is clean and well produced, prices are reasonable, the staff is nice, and it's an in-out process. With all of the other options around, the place isn't worth a drive from central Denver, but if you find yourself in need while making DIA runs, it might be worth the detour. • LivWell

    LivWell

2863 Larimer St. Denver, CO 80205
    303-484-1662

http://livwellco.com LivWell's downtown location sits north of the chaos that is Larimer Square, so finding a parking spot here is easier than at most of its RiNo counterparts. That said, LivWell isn't in the cleanest part of town and doesn't try to glam itself into anything it isn't. The waiting room is small and lackluster, with a window for the receptionist, and there's a small snack bar if you get hungry while waiting or want some cheap munchies on the way out. That doesn't mean the product mirrors its surroundings; in fact, it's quite the opposite. LivWell's employees are nice and enthusiastic, and the dispensary offers three different levels of flower: green, gold and platinum. Each strain level is appropriately priced, as are LivWell's edibles and concentrates. They also carry disposable vape pens for those seeking a cheap, discreet option. More >>

    LivWell

    432 S. Broadway Denver, CO 80209
    720-428-2550

http://livwellco.com LivWell is one of the larger dispensary chains, with seven affiliated dispensaries scattered from Colorado Springs all the way up to Boulder. The Broadway shop has been combined with the old Broadway Wellness and is clean and upscale, with wide-plank hardwood floors and tan walls uncluttered by posters or product advertisements. The wood floors and high ceilings inside the old building give it an empty feeling at first, but the sunshine pouring in from the front windows and mellow electronic music bring it to life. The bud bar features the same rehabbed-industrial feel of the front room, but with a massive exposed brick wall. Framed pictures hang on the opposite wall, but otherwise the space is left empty, and the bud stacked along the bottom shelf of three glass cabinets is the main focus. It's broken down into three price ranges: green, gold and platinum, with the herb on the platinum shelf being hand-selected and hand-trimmed. Read our full dispensary review of LivWell. More >>

    2193 W. Evans Ave. Denver, CO 80223
    720-361-2981

http://livwellco.com LivWell on Evans typically has a couple of sativa and a couple of indica strains on hand and more than a dozen hybrid strains, many of them unique crosses you won't see elsewhere. To help guide consumers in their purchases, LivWell has established three tiers of quality: green, gold and platinum, from lowest to highest, and there's also a discounted members-only shelf with strains the average joe won't be able to access. You'll also find shake and some pre-weighed ounces on the shelves with price breaks (including a $99 ounce that's a fantastic deal if you like to cook with marijuana), plus caviar, wax, drinks, edibles (with some of the best prices in town, if you prefer to eat your pot), vape pens and cartridges, and even seeds, if you'd like to try growing your own cannabis from the ground up. • Lodo Wellness Center

    Lodo Wellness Center

1617 Wazee St. Denver, CO 80202
    303-534-5020

http://lodowellnesscenter.com The dispensary is down a steep flight of stairs from the sidewalk to the basement of the building. It takes up the entire floor, tucking patient lounges in between massive structural columns and pushing couches up against the massive painted bricks used for the foundation of the former paper mill. The shop has gone for an Eastern Buddhist/Zen theme with low painted chairs, squatting Buddha statues and colorful framed posters with vaguely Hindu symbols. There is also a huge, seven-foot-tall antique-looking ceramic vase painted with what looked like a life-sized crane. What the smooth, peaceful vibe of the decor fails to do is mask the immense size of everything. In a way, it feels like a marijuana dispensary pop-up shop had taken over a South Broadway antique store specializing in Asian crafts. As in the rest of the basement, huge foundation beams separate out some of the wall space and room in the bud bar. And the bud bar itself is set up on a set of antique, heavy wooden dining tables. Everything LoDo Wellness produces is grown in a coco/soil mix according to the 'tender, and most strains are from the center's garden. Indica-dominant strains are kept on the left, while sativas are on the right of the small tiered display. A Plexiglas case for hash is placed in the middle of the table and separated the two stacks of herb. Read our full dispensary review of Lodo Wellness Center. More >>
