Tea Pot Lounge

Tea Pot Lounge

I looked at about a dozen different flowers, including a beautifully frosty and sweet Black Ice OG, some decent Super Silver Haze and the same Super Silver Haze/OG cross dubbed Kizzle that the Cannasseur developed.
Groundswell

Groundswell

Some cuts looked better than others, like the NYC Diesel and the Berry Skunk, but most looked well-dried and cured -- healthy buds from a medium-sized warehouse.
Top Shelf Alternatives

Top Shelf Alternatives

Top Shelf Alternatives also had two special strains, Blacktooth Grin and Lavender, at $15 per gram all the way up. I got a good look at both, and neither seemed to be of any better quality than the rest of the items on the shelf.

    Medicinal Oasis

    303-756-1494

http://medicinaloasis.com Anything beach-themed in a landlocked state tends to feel campy and corny. And so it is with the tropical-themed Medicinal Oasis, with its Jimmy-Buffett-yacht-club decor. But the buds here might very well have you sailing these green seas again, especially if you're an Aurora resident for whom the location is convenient. In the corners of the waiting room, you'll find tiny models of boats, but the nautical theme ships out once you enter the bud room. And once you take a sniff of some of the product on offer at Medicinal Oasis, nothing short of a boat hull jetting into the room will grab your attention. There are two different tiers of herb here: regular and connoisseur-grade. But within those tiers, the shop has also divided up the harvest of each strain into higher-quality top buds ("only taken from the top six inches of the plant," according to budtenders) and lower-quality bottom buds. There are also concentrates available, including indica-specific, sativa-specific and hybrid bubble hash. Read our full dispensary review of Medicinal Oasis. More >>

  • Medicinal Wellness Center

    Medicinal Wellness Center

    5430 W. 44th Ave. Denver, CO 80212
    303-333-3338

http://medicinalwellnesscenter.com These days, a selection of about two dozen strains is sufficient for most shops -- but Medicinal Wellness, apparently, is not most shops. Instead, there's a grocery store's worth of cannabis strains in tall glass jars, all labeled with lengthy descriptions and colorful artwork. The long, custom-made bud bar is identical to the one at Medicinal Oasis (this dispensary's sister store); also on hand is the signature joint rack featuring Mason jars filled with finger-length joints rolled from buds. Concentrates are available, too, though everything is either CO2-extracted or icewater-extracted. The shop also carries some awesome, no-frills, blended icewater-extracted hash in several different micron sizes. The crumbly quality and bubbly, melty consistency under a flame are both worth the coin. Tiny screened bowls of the skunky, rich chocolate crumbles are brain-buzzingly strong, and capping an entire bowlful of herb with them is trance-inducing. • Medicine Man Denver

    Medicine Man Denver

4750 Nome St. Denver, CO 80239
    303-373-0752

http://medicinemandenver.com Medicine Man Denver sits in an industrial section of northeast Denver, and the loading dock and fragmented parking lots easily remind you of its surroundings. There is no waiting room at Medicine Man, just a roped-off waiting line in front of the bud bar, making you feel like you're waiting to get your bags checked at the airport. The open area is divided into a retail side and a medical side, with up to six budtenders available for retail. Medicine Man also has a clone bar, with a thirty-day guarantee on its clones. Debit/credit cards are accepted, and Medicine Man has several very lucrative daily specials on more than just surplus strains. Medicine Man's concentrate-and-edible selection is on par with the best of them, and buds are pre-packed into grams and eighths. The shop typically carries around 20 retail and 35 medical strains. • Metro Cannabis

    Metro Cannabis

    8151 E. Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80220
    720-771-9866

http://metrocannabis.org Metro Cannabis isn't really known for much. It's generally seen by patients as a warehouse shop with warehouse-quality buds and little to offer someone who wants true variety and well-grown herb. It's a low-rent shop set up along a rough stretch of Colfax that relies on walk-in traffic from the neighborhood. Still, none of that seems to matter: People line up inside to buy what Metro Cannabis has to sell anyway. The shop is dual-use and the bud bars aren't separated, which means that patients under 21 are going to have to go elsewhere. But that doesn't appear to be affecting business. The staff is friendly enough, but recreational prices are notably high, with eighth prices as much as $20 more than on the medical side of things -- and that's not including state tax. No brick weed, but then again, not much worth remembering at Metro Cannabis unless you're from out of state. Read our full dispensary review of Metro Cannabis. More >>

  • Metropolis Medical and Recreational Cannabis

    Metropolis Medical and Recreational Cannabis

4600 Ironton St. Denver, CO 80239
    303-373-9333

http://metropolismmc.com Situated in a complex of workshops and warehouses, Metropolis occupies a generic old office building with ample parking. They've converted the office break room into the shop's waiting room, with a flat-screen TV and several comfortable seats. Looney Tunes cartoons play on a loop -- so don't show up high, or you might never leave. There's a separate bud room for retail and medical, and each one holds all the products expected at a respectable dispensary. Staff members say they get most of their business from out-of-towners leaving the airport, but they're still very friendly and informative, even if you might not be a returning customer. Metropolis Medical typically has around a dozen strains on display and offers daily specials. It currently accepts cash only, but there is an ATM on site.
