    El Chapultepec Too

    3930 W. 38th Ave. Denver, CO 80212

http://www.myspace.com/PecJazz Anybody who's ever been to El Chapultepec on the weekend knows that the tiny place fills up mighty fast. Sometimes it gets so boisterous that it's hard to hear the jazzers on the tiny stage. Many times we've wished the club was about four times bigger -- you know, the kind of joint where you can actually find a place to sit, have a beer and take in some of our city's finest musicians. Enter El Chapultepec Too. Housed in the former Blue Corn Lounge location, right down the street from the old Elitch's, it's a jazz lover's oasis -- with plenty of room to move. More >>

    Mead Street Station

    3625 W. 32nd Ave. Denver, CO 80211
    303-433-2138

http://www.meadststation.com A rowdy restaurant/bar in northwest Denver, Mead St. Station's biggest draw is probably its reasonably priced food and decent array of microbrews and top-shelf liquor; on weekends, the bar is crammed with happy imbibers. But music is also on the menu several nights a week, with acoustic, cover, jazz and R&B bands working a window-side stage area. More >>

  • Oriental Theater

    Oriental Theater

    4335 W. 44th Ave. Denver, CO 80212
    720-420-0030

http://www.theorientaltheater.com Built as a movie theater in 1927, the Oriental Theater showed films daily for decades, but it hit a rough patch in the ’50s, during the flight to the suburbs. In an effort to boost attendance in the ’60s, the theater was updated with plush seating, new carpeting, fresh paint and a bigger projection screen. That screen soon went dark, however, and over the next few decades, the Oriental slid into disrepair. Although a few attempts were made to revitalize the space in the ’90s, none of the owners had the vision or staying power to capitalize on the theater's substantial assets. But in 2005, new owners took over, gave the venue an overdue facelift and started bringing in a steady and diverse stream of national and local acts. More >>

http://www.ziggieslivemusic.com Ziggie's has always been known as Denver's oldest blues bar, but new owners took over the place and remodeled it in 2008, have expanded the music selection by also bringing in R&B, funk, rock and jazz acts on Fridays and Saturdays. The other five nights are allotted to open mikes, alternately hosted by Doc Brown's Blues Band or the Blues All Stars. Whether you want to hone your chops with some stellar blues talent or just listen, Ziggie's is the place. More >>
