Formerly known as Andrew Jackson Jihad, the succinctly named AJJ has been spearheading the 21st-century folk-punk movement since its inception in Phoenix in 2004. The group’s catalogue runs the gamut from gritty waltzes to frantic jams, with macabre lyrics that cover social anxiety, religion and death, forcing listeners to face hard truths while simultaneously raising a middle finger to those truths. AJJ primarily comprises Sean Bonnette (guitar/vocals) and Ben Gallaty (bass), who are now embarking on a tour celebrating the tenth anniversary of their 2007 breakout album, People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People I Know, which includes fan favorites like “People II: The Reckoning” and “Brave as a Noun.” Last year, the band released its fifth album, The Bible 2, proving that AJJ still has plenty of catchy-yet-depressing hooks and blistering punk anthems left in it.
