Athena Project Mixology Competition Fundraiser

Ally Fleckenstein Daniella Solano mixes up last year's prize-winning drink.

The Mixology Competition Fundraiser has fast become the source of the Athena Project's biggest financial support – undoubtedly because it's just so dang much fun. The contest goes down in a friendly bar – the Corner Office – and this year combines comedy and that other favorite pastime, drinking, while offering a peek at next spring's Athena Project Festival, an annual woman-centric, mixed-discipline arts celebration that's already in the planning stages. Headliner Mara Wiles and host Timmi Lasley will keep the laughs coming, while you taste flights of drinks dreamed up by competing lady bartenders.

“The drinking starts going right away,” says Athena Project founder Angela Astle. “And while the bartenders mix their cocktails, they'll talk about the names of the drinks, how they were created and what the ingredients are before serving them. There will be some heavy appetizers along the way, and we'll be giving updates on what's going on with the Athena Project. It's an opportunity for us to give snippets on our programs and explain why we're doing what we're doing.”

The Mixology Competition gets under way at 7 p.m. October 26 at the Corner Office, 1401 Curtis Street. Admission is $35 in advance or $40 at the door; there's also an artist rate of $25 for attendees who can produce a business card, professional website or a head shot and résumé as proof.
