Chastity Belt is the worst band to ever exist” in the liner notes of its first EP, and plays songs with titles like “Cool Slut,” which celebrates slut pride and renounces slut-shaming. While the band started as a joke intended to make friends laugh, real fans have followed it in droves, connecting to the taut post-punk melodies and a relentlessly self-deprecating sense of humor. In the seven years it’s been a band, Chastity Belt has mastered the art of the lyrical eye roll and proven itself capable of sincerely examining being rudderless and in your twenties. We’re all better for it.
