In the Hot, the independent composer, multi-instrumentalist and singer pushes the limits of how electronic and classical string instruments can be used to craft songs that flirt with the avant-garde edges of classical music, singer-songwriter fare, gospel melodies, jazz and pop. While so many musicians tether themselves to a single genre or instrument, Wells maintains a free-form creativity that allows her to both appreciate and innovate a breadth of musical forms. The result is a body of work that is riveting, personal, haunting and never boring. On her current tour, Wells is performing material from This World Is Too _____ for You, a recent collection of songs that she wrote for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music Series; she wants to test out solo versions of these works and others on live audiences before recording her next album.
