While Kyle Hollingsworth has long been a keyboardist for jam-centric act the String Cheese Incident, he’s also enjoyed a buoyant solo career with his own band. In 2004 he released his first album, Never Odd or Even, with guests turns by renowned jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman and ace steel player Robert Randolph. Since then, he’s released a few more albums, toured with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and done a stint with the Fiery Furnaces. Tonight’s show is a celebration both of Hollingsworth’s fiftieth birthday and of his new album, 50. As evidenced by his previous solo outings and the new album, Hollingsworth clearly knows his way around funk, but 50 captures his chameleon-like evolution as a musician and songwriter, heard in a nod to Phish in “Prime” and in the disco-funk of “Take the Ride.” Hollingsworth will be joined by SCI bandmate Michael Kang, trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick and the Motet Horns.
