At sixteen, Lil Pump is one of the most hyped rap acts today, best known for lo-fi bangers “D Rose” and “Flex Like Ouu.” The South Florida rapper has been included in the vanguard of so-called Soundcloud rap (named for its artists’ preferred streaming technology) — despite having not yet released a full-length project. In fact, Lil Pump may be best known for kicking an audience member in the head and for celebrating 1 million Instagram followers with a Xanax-themed cake. Lil Pump’s idea of rapping might be chanting a catchphrase over and over, but his distorted punk take on hip-hop is exciting and extremely of the moment — so far outside the establishment that it might actually be democratic.
