Pumpkins across the state are quivering on their vines with anticipation that they will be selected to participate in the Punkin Chunkin Colorado event October 6 through 8 at the Arapahoe Park racetrack, 26000 E. Quincy Avenue in Aurora.
Punkin Chunkin Colorado is one of the state’s favorite fall festivals, drawing people from all over to see how far adult and youth competitors can make pumpkins fly using a variety of catapults, air cannons and other contraptions.
The event kicks off with a Friday night concert as The Swon Brothers take the main stage at 6 p.m. Concert tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door; the concert ticket includes free admission to the event all weekend long.
The festival and competition take place Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are sold at the gate the day of the event, or to skip the line, can be purchased in advance online at AuroraGov.org/PunkinChunkin. Admission for children ages 4 and younger is free, and kids and adults ages 5 and older pay $5 per day. Parking is also free.
In addition to cheering for their favorite team of pumpkin chunkers, visitors can pick their own prize pumpkin from the patch and enjoy pony rides, face painting, inflatables and other family activities. Event goers will also see a lasso artist, Loop Rawlins and a car show sponsored in partnership with the Central Colorado Corvette Club.
A variety of beers and cocktails as well as a variety of food trucks and food vendors will be on hand. All alcoholic beverages are $5 and IDs are required to purchase. [Organizer's description]
