Colorado Black Women for Political Action's 39th annual tribute to black women is titled Courageous Women: A Call to Activism, which is particularly appropriate in today's racially charged political climate. The keynote speaker, political commentator Tara Dowdell, is a frequent MSNBC guest who's known for her calm demeanor and even-handedness. Other honorees include historian Clementine Washington Pigford, who has written extensively about Denver's historic Zion Baptist Church; Janiece Mackey, co-founder of Young Aspiring Americans for Social and Political Activism; attorney Xakema Henderson; and activist and author Reverend Tammy Garrett-Williams.
