Few modern influences have slipped into Bonnie Brae Tavern over the past eighty years. Instead, four generations of the Dire family -- who opened their roadhouse right across the street from the headquarters of the Denver Temperance League in 1934 -- have slapped down a couple of coats of paint and otherwise left the joint more or less alone. Bonnie Brae was one of the first spots in town to offer pizza, and the place remains wholly American Classic -- pot roasts and T-bones, burgers and fries, waitresses who know your order before you even sit down in one of the Tiffany-blue vinyl-upholstered booths.
