If you're craving authentic Mexican street food, you can't go wrong with El Trompito Taqueria, a wonderland of Mexican street favorites. Step inside, and you’ll hear the thud of cleavers in the open kitchen, where workers assemble tacos, huaraches, alambres, skyscraping tortas and aguas frescas made with fresh fruit. Photographs on the menu posted on the wall help gringos piece together their orders, but you can't go wrong ordering anything with overnight-braised lamb, smoky adobo sauce, prickly-pear cactus leaves or other traditional ingredients prepared to exacting standards. And if you want to kick things up a notch, visit the salsa bar in the middle of the festive, lively dining room for an additional injection of heat.
