A few years after opening Rock-a-Billies in Arvada, owner Jimmy Nigg took over the former Salvagetti Bicycle Workshop space at 1611 Platte Street and transformed it into the Monkey Barrel and opened it in the fall of 2013. The spot, which boasts a mural of former Sex Pistol Sid Vicious on the back wall, brings in punk-, alternative- and modern-rock acts a few nights a week. The bar serves a number of local craft beers and boasts several TVs for gameday action. In 2016, the Monkey Barrel relocated to 4401 Tejon Street and a kitchen was added serving Carbone's sandwiches and other fare from Tony Lonardo. Nigg is working on adding a cabaret license in order to continue bringing in live bands at the new location.
