The concept for MetroBoom came about when founder, Jung Park, moved to Denver from New York City in 2000. Jung was a consultant, working for Fortune 500 clients to provide strategy, design and implementation services in branding, communication design, web and e-enterprise developments. As a brand consultant, Jung realized that physical appearance was equally as important as strategy, expertise and personal communication skills; however, it was difficult to find a place where a man could find a quality haircut while enjoying himself during the process. Though offering high-end grooming services, the majority of hair salons were unisex and often intimidating. Meanwhile, barbershops fell short in offering a refined and sophisticated, high quality cut. At the time, the idea of a men’s-specific parlor was untouched, and from there the idea for MetroBoom was born. Not until two years later was MetroBoom conceived into a business plan. While Jung was completing his MBA at the University of Colorado Denver, Jung strategically fused the concept of a superior men’s barbershop with his expertise in branding. He arrived at the hybrid business model for MetroBoom of consulting and style services that work together to achieve successful personal branding for men. The business plan was entered into the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship’s annual business plan competition, and was awarded the first place honor. MetroBoom opened its doors in 2004 with support from the Bard Center and other individuals within the Denver business community, and continues today as one of the leading men’s style consulting and branding firms in the area.
