We're very lucky. As a matter of fact, we're the luckiest people in the whole USA, because this small, unprepossessing spot squashed into Tiffany Plaza is the only Oshima Ramen in America. Brought from Tokyo to the Rocky Mountain West by local noodle magnate Todd Imamura, this marks the beginning (and the end) of the Japanese Oshima Ramen invasion. But it's enough, because this place serves the ultimate ramen, with fresh noodles rolled every morning and broths made every day to exacting standards with the freshest ingredients.

Overall:

At a blink of an eye, you might miss this joint. The front of this little ramen place looks like a computer repair shop. The sign on front is partially lit. I am sure glad i looked harder and drove around the strip mall more than once. Once you walk in, you notice the walls full of grafitti and signatures. This place has cheap eats. The kimchee is xtra spicy and the homemade ramen is very good. It comes in a big bowl with a hard boiled egg. I live in Broomfield and this was well worth the drive. Dont forget the gyoza!

Overall:

I have to say, Oshima Ramen is overrated. For someone who has experienced actual Tokyo noodle shops, Oshima Ramen is only so-so. I went there with great excitement after reading a Westword review and getting the scoop that it's the only other branch of an authentic Japenese noodle shop east of LA. The place is shabby and shopworn; it definitely needs a redo of the dining room. (And truth be told, a lot of the noodle shop experience is atmospheric, and I just can't get excited about a shop tucked into a strip mall next door to Fresh Fish.) And the soups, while good, were nothing special. The udon was thick and chewy, how I like it, but the broth seemed a jumble of disparate flavors. I wouldn't even go so far to say it's the best Ramen in Denver (try Kiki's on Colorado Blvd, which isn't 100% Japanese but it is much tastier). And it was expensive to boot--for two bowls of noodles, my wife and I spent more than $30, which is a sin if you're not in Tokyo.
