Steuben's is named after a beloved Boston establishment opened by Josh Wolkon's great-uncles Max and Joe back in 1945; this Steuben's was brought to life over months and years by Wolkon, his wife, Jen, and chef Matt Selby, the same folks who brought us Vesta Dipping Grill. The place looks perfect -- not just like any hometown diner or roadhouse, but like all of them. And the menu, which has been worked and reworked for years, presents the second-best versions of everyone's favorite regional classics. The only better version you'll find is in your own home town.

I am always weary of anyplace that charges $3 extra for fries with a $6 cheeseburger thats pretty damn small. The food can be good, but not for the price. There's nothing special here really. Its a 'fancy' american diner, meaning they have a nicer decor than crappy diners and charge too much. At least they serve Schlitz. The pickles are not spicy at all, more like watery cucumbers that have been hardened with Clark Griswold's non-nutritive food enhancers. I would take a run-down diner with cheaper, larger, greasier portions over this hipster place anyday.

The prices are outrageous. The food, nearly "bad".

My part of 4 went there on Sunday, 2/17. Not including drinks or tips, we spent $110 and left hungry. One person ordered the Lobster Roll ($21). This was the tiniest sandwich ever seen. LOL. Plus, the lobster (they said it was flown in daily) was dry and extremely tough. Another had the shrimp po-boy and complained it smelled fishy. As anyone who lived on the coast knows, fish/shrimp only smell fishy when they get old, or go bad. The shrimp was tough.

One appetizer, the calamari had almost no calamari in it. They were the tiniest little rings. We actually dug into the appetizer with our forks to FIND the calamari. It's mainly onions and olives in a vinegary sauce. Not worth it either.

The macaroni? Tastes exactly like the Stouffer's frozen entree in the grocery store.

Hush puppies - in sugar? For $3, we got three golf ball-seized hush puppies, covered in sugar. (???). Also not worth $3, let alone the fact it was covered in sugar.

Trout Almondine. One member liked the trout, but picked off the olives. Said the sauce was vinegary. Who expects green olives when they order trout with almonds?

All in all, probably a nice place to meet for a drink. Maybe for lunch, if you know what you are getting. Otherwise, avoid - avoid - avoid. Bland food, extremely small portions, and high prices for the amount you get. No value here. Nothing seemed fresh either.

I agree with the last post. Nice servers. I was expecting a lot with the good reviews. Our party left hungry. I mean, 12 (TWELVE) fries? Come On!!

Yes, unless you've been there before and NEED the ambiance, this place is pretty much a rip off. Even for downtown (and it's NOT in downtown). What is management thinking?

Wish I read this before. Mac 'N' Cheese was the same as you can get for 99cents in the frozen food section. Sandwiches were TINY.

Steuben's seems to want to be a diner that's special. Well, if you want a special diner, go to Sam's #3. MUCH MORE food, better prices.

We too left there hungry and dissappointed. And spent too much money for what we got.

Overall:

Is it me or is everything there over salted? I just ate the Tuna Nicoise salad and it was like licking a salt block. I feel the same way about the fried chicken.
