At this funky restaurant, the solid Asian fare -- always fresh and well cooked -- boasts some fun touches, including rice molded into the shape of a fish. With few exceptions, meals are priced for families and frequent dining.

Thai Basil has a menu that is more about Thai and Asian fusion style than being true Thai food. Their food is very good and their decor will bring you back home to southeast asia. A great dining experience.

Overall:

I know what I�m talking about when it comes to Thai food. I should say that I lived in Thailand for years. I speak Thai and my last wife was Thai. I have a Thai child. I am very disappointed lately in restaurants being called Thai restaurants and are just impostors. There is list of them i.e. (Thai Basil) on North Academy they are Chinese and Vietnamese as well as Lao Restaurateurs for example on 30th and Colorado �Wild Ginger� Thai cuisine. They all are trying to cash in on the Thai name for good food. So they are operating under false pretenses. Most of those restaurants don�t even have a Thai person working there. When I speak to them in Thai they don�t understand, I know not to expect Thai food or even a good copy there of. Occasionally they try and tell me the cook is Thai, but when I get the food, it is not Thai food but a greasy Chinese/Vietnamese concoction.
Friends of mine in a Thai Restaurant in Denver tell me that occasionally customers come in and order for example a simple Thai dish Pud Thai, and when they are served, they complain that "...the dish is not the way it is at this other restaurant". Well that restaurant isn't even Thai, but the customers think it is. Don�t be fooled by imitators, get real Thai food and you�ll easily see why others are using their name, but also because of their lack of talent, it diminishes the well established Thai food legacy.

Overall:

I have to agree with George on this one. Too many places with Thai in the name have little or no Thai on the menu. I live near the original Thai Basil and get takeout there more often than I should but it's cheap and filling. What it is not is Thai. Even when I ask for something HOT it all tastes like generic Chinese stir fry takeout. In a real Thai restaurant if you order "hot" your eyelids are going to be sweating. So having said that you should not expect anything resembling Thai food here, you can expect better than average generic Asian takeout (or dine in).
