A Moveable Feast
Denver has an absolute embarrassment of riches when it comes to singer-songwriters. Attempting to determine whos the best well, thats just a fools errand, as I can tell you, because I have to do it every year for this papers annual Best of Denver issue. And its agonizing. Ultimately, my choice comes down to those whose songs have moved me the most. This year, that was Rachel Pollard and Gregory Alan Isakov (pictured). With so many talented artists around, though, it feels a bit disingenuous to try ranking their art. Because when you strip away the punditry and the pageantry, creating great art really isnt about competition. But no one needs to tell that to the songsmiths slated to appear at A Moveable Feast this weekend at the Meadowlark. Organized by the Late Jack Redell and Syntax magazine, the three-day festival (which runs from Friday, May 3, through Sunday, May 5) will feature performances by Redell (a Best of Denver award winner in 2004), Pollard and Isakov, Roger Green, Kevin Mileski, the Wheel (Nathaniel Rateliff), Ian Cooke and a host of others. Stop by on any night, and I guarantee youll be richer for the experience.
