It'd be a lot more fun to write this item if Aerosmith had flat-out gone to hell. Then there'd be no reason not to note that Steven Tyler is more of a fashion disaster than Paris Hilton these days. (Enough with the scarves, dude. They make people think you're about to sing "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.") The same goes for ridiculing Joe "Scary" Perry and cohorts Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer, who would be ideal choices to co-star in a new, boomer-friendly adaptation of The Golden Girls. But truth be told, these guys can still sound pretty damned good when they put their minds to it. Okay, the songwriting muse has apparently deserted them, but Honkin' on Bobo, their 2004 blues tribute, was a lot livelier than any of Eric Clapton's recent exercises in musical cryogenics, and Rockin' the Joint, last year's live disc, actually lived up to its title, even if the joint being rocked was the freakin' Hard Rock Hotel. As such, ripping these old-timers isn't nearly as entertaining as ridiculing Lenny Kravitz, who's opening for them. Now, that's a good time.
