Nick Houde has made consistently interesting and innovative music since he came to Denver from Montrose a few years ago. Transistor Radio Sound, with its ultra-sincere indie-pop vibe, is the project for which he was most well known. When he put that act to rest, Houde formed the free-jazz outfit Future Heavy, and now, with BDRMPPL (due at Rhinoceropolis this Friday, March 21), he and Ryan of Thundercade bring punk-rock energy to their performance, further blurring the lines between pop, bent-circuit and 8-bit chip-tone composition and collage. The use of neo-tribal percussion with creatively manipulated drum machines and loops gives the pair's songs a visceral texture that further pushes the boundaries of what music can and should sound like.
