Congrats are due to the Boulder Outlook Hotel and the Colorado Blues Society, which have both earned nods from the Blues Foundation. On Friday, February 1 in Memphis, both groups will be one of fifteen organizations honored with a Keeping the Blues Alive Award, a prestigious award meant to honor folks that have expended a notable amount of effort to keep blues music alive -- a claim you can easily make about both Dan King and the folks at the Boulder Outlook Hotel and the Colorado Blues Society, a champion of the blues on the Front Range for the past fifteen years.

The Boulder Outlook Hotel and the Colorado Blues Society are the latest locals to be recognized by the Blues Foundation, the same organization that crowned the Lionel Young Band as a winner in its 2011 International Blues Challenge and named Crime Scene Queen by The Informants Best Self Produced CD in 2010.
This year, Dan Treanor (a fellow recipient of a Keeping the Blues Alive award for education last year) and the Afrosippi Band, Erica Brown and Jack Yoder will be representing the Centennial state at this year's International Blues Challenge in Memphis at the end of the month.
This year's IBC contenders are slated to perform at Cassleman's Bar & Venue on Wednesday, January 23 with JT and the Thunderbolts and Eddie Turner & the Trouble Twins. In addition to being a send off for Colorado's IBC winners, the evening will also serve as a fundraiser for the Blues Foundation's Raise the Roof initiative.
