Strong enough for a man, but made for everybody, Atlanta's PH Balance appears at Quixote's True Blue on Wednesday, September 25, with a followup at Trilogy on Thursday, September 26. Drawing comparisons to Portishead, Massive Attack and A Tribe Called Quest, the band creates a lush blend of hip-hop, acid jazz and atmosphere. Having turned their local scene on its ear, the members of PH Balance mix freestyle rapping and sung vocals with phat kick drums and soaring trumpets. Though the new CD, Fluent, has enjoyed a warm reception, live performance is the outfit's strongest suit. PH shows keep evolving with enough raw electricity and soul to keep even the most skeptic listeners grooving. Get the Balance right.
