Bruce Springsteen may be the American heartland's most enduring musical biographer, but the list of artists who continue to mine the territory suggests that it's still rich with material. A local example is found in Salute This!, Friday, August 31, at the Boulder Theater, a collaborative, multimedia hodgepodge of a tribute to the ever-elusive American Dream. The night's program includes visual art and installations, a fashion show (sponsored by local design firm House of Frog), experimental film (Boulder-based sound artists and filmmaker JoEL Haertling, pictured, will screen his dual-projection "Redneck Exposition Documentary") and plenty of music. Country Road X, a collaboration between members of Fat Mama, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Room 40 and the Boulder Creative Music Ensemble, will perform, as will DJs Beekay and Jeremy. Friday's offerings promise to range from bizarre, postmodern and futuristic to kitschy and neo-traditional. Oh, beautiful!
