Marca Cassity, Thursday, February 8, at Denver's Hard Rock Cafe, is a truly busy musical bee. Two years ago, Boulder's infamous Women From Mars series -- in which she plays a vital role -- expanded to a weekly radio show of the same name on KWAB/AM 1490. As the show's host, Cassity tells tales of her treks on the musical road (including her first national tour with Brit-bred alternative folkie, Sheila Nicholls) and profiles independent female artists, both local and national. Though she's not yet ready to hang up her singer-songwriter role to play full-time DJ , Cassity was recently nominated for Best On-Air Entertainment Personality at the upcoming Colorado Broadcasting Awards. She also released her self-titled debut CD -- which is chock-full of her signature acoustic folky blues -- last April. In addition to her solo work, Cassity lives out her "Chaka Khan wannabe fantasies" by singing backup in the funk/soul band, Liza. Got all that straight? At the Hard Rock, she's gigging with fellow Martians Wendy Woo and Gravity Struck, and she'll no doubt treat the audience to her funked-up, Joan Osborne-esque tunes that delve into love, demons and tragic disco queens. Don't be afraid to let it all loose: As a former ER nurse, Cassity can bandage any dance-floor or mosh-pit wounds you may acquire.
