Philadelphia's Lotus comprises Jesse Miller on bass and sampler, Luke Miller on guitar and keys, Chuck Morris on electronic and acoustic percussion, Mike Rempel on guitar, and Mike Greenfield and Steve Clemens on drums. With so many instrumentalists — particularly the plethora of percussionists — it's easy to see how Lotus achieves its sweeping, orchestral sounds and tricky beats. While the Millers play with electro-heavy beeps and melodies, the percussionist on duty brings the crashing beat, melding the music into a complex, layered, yet utterly danceable blend. The overall compositions are heavily guitar-driven, bringing electronic music (and a rave-worthy light show) to the rock fans who don't yet know they love the sound but will undoubtedly dig the anthem-worthy guitar lines. Catch Lotus on Friday, November 5, when the group headlines the Gothic Theatre, or on Saturday, November 6, when Lotus plays with Infected Mushroom at the Fillmore.
