PAPER DIAMOND at the OGDEN | 11/4/11

Paper Diamond (aka Alex Botwin ) cut the bullshit last night on its first headlining appearance at the Ogden. With the assistance of fellow Elm and Oak labelmate Raw Russ, Boulder locals Sorry For Partying, and Minnesota, Paper Diamond dropped new material and showed Denver what The Turnt Up tour has been displaying all over the country.

Raw Russ can be found at just about every high profile show that comes through Denver and Boulder. Keeping it nostalgic, he still scratches on vinyl over his computer tracks, which always warm the crowd up with classic hip-hop and rap beats.

Elm & Oak is a clothing line, a record label, a retail shop...basically, it's a lifestyle.

Nick Guarino and Sage B. Ragin make up Sorry For Partying. You may recognize Guarino's name from the popular blog, ThisSongIsSick.com, where exclusive drops on local and national tracks are posted almost daily. Last night, SFP opened with Rustified's remix of Pretty Lights' "Hot Like Sauce," before remixing what sounded like GriZ's reproduced "Dream On." This would make sense seeing as GriZ had been roaming the Denver/Boulder area for a few days, playing shows at Club Vinyl and Cervantes on Halloween.

Minnesota followed Sorry for Partying, but we still had yet to experience the Paper Diamond light show.

Christian Bauhofer, better known as Minnesota, proved last night that this Denver show was certainly not his first Rodeo. We heard the heavy remix of Adele's "Rollin In The Deep," which is getting more and more play at shows, as well as a heavy Ellie Goulding sample of "Starry Eyed."

Paper Diamond came out at around midnight, completely shrouded in smoke and ready to party. Alex B's production is so proper that it's nearly impossible to find error in the mixing. Adding a lighting rig that shapes geometrical figures in the smoke mirrored the acute precision with which he's creating his music. Last night's show hopefully was proof positive that Alex B's producing career is moving in a positive direction.

Though we unsure if the show actually sold out, it sure felt like it standing down front where the party didn't stop all night.

Again, caught in the crossfire of his blinding LEDs.
