STONES THROW PARTY at CITY HALL | 08.26.11

Stones Throw Anniversary party! Anniversary celebrations are typically fancy and more merry than Christmas. The good folks from Stones Throw Records who came out to Denver to rock with the crowd -- Mayer Hawthorne (as DJ Haircut), Peter Butter Wolf, Strong Arm Steady, J Rocc -- most certainly got down in the name of fifteen years of dope music, proving in the process that there really ain't nothing like a Stones Throw party.

Early in the night, DJ Mu$a got down, playing essentially a Dilla set melted in with several moments of music diversity that kept the dance floor packed with happy people. Jasmine Solano was up next and definitely moved the crowd with selections from Prince, Sheila E. and a slew of other rare grooves, ushering in J Rocc (pictured above) to a very warmed up audience. As parties centered around rare grooves and pure hip-hop can go, and especially with some of the best DJs facilitating the madness, the anniversary party was mostly about dancing and celebrating the artists who have worked with Stones Throw in the past. Fans of the music were clearly in their element, cheering loudly when Mayer Hawthorne (aka DJ Haircut, pictured above) took the stage, as well as for Peanut Butter Wolf. A slew of other artists such as Strong Arm Steady and Jasmine Solano (above) kept the crowd's energy up. Stones Throw has long been hailed as an entity that supports good music, and the packed house was most definitely indicative of the love folks have for the record label. The party started right around 9 p.m. and went on through the night with the excitement building for each act. From the hip-hop heads who stood on the wall and nodded their head to the beat dropping DJs who let the music take over to the rowdy dance floor madness that took place when Peanut Butter Wolf (above) took the stage, the night was most definitely a celebration.
