A Brit at birth, Richie Hawtin spent the majority of his formative years just within the borders of our neighbor to the north. While machine-assembly opportunities lured Hawtin's father south to Detroit, it was machine-inspired music that later motivated his teenage son. One of the top two contenders for techno capital of the world, the Motor City couldn't have been a more perfect place for the future legend to get his eardrums wet. Sheet One may not have been the first release Hawtin was involved in producing, but its acid artwork (the insert was perforated like blotter paper) and audio juxtaposition certainly served as a memorable icebreaker. This Thursday, June 2, the Berlin-based elder statesman of pacifier culture will wax Nostalgik at the Church.
