Willie Houston knows the blues: He's been mastering the genre for the past six decades, and he even goes so far as to put "Bluesman" before his name. Live From Ziggie's, recorded at (and funded by) Colorado's oldest blues club, finds the Louisiana native getting down and dirty on some electric Delta blues. Although his guitar playing recalls that of John Lee Hooker at times, Houston's vocal delivery is warmer, even with its weathered, road-worn feel. And while there are a few up-tempo cuts on this ten-song disc, it's the slower blues, like "Sallie Mae" and "Mattie Lee," that completely ooze with feeling. Live From Ziggie's shows precisely why Houston is known as Colorado's elder blues statesman.
