Although the Bottoms Up Tavern went belly-up last summer, Wyatt's Torch is carrying the torch. For years, the venue/drinking hole at 3124 South Parker Road was Aurora's favorite headbanger ballroom, and now that Wyatt's Torch has lit up the address again (it opened on March 3), the new owners intend to keep the music loud and the devil horns raised.

The original Heimmie's Pub layout is gone, with the awkwardly centered circular bar pushed out of the way for an improved stage setup, complete with a sound system that would make Ted Nugent proud. But the rock here doesn't stop at wicked guitar solos: Booking is wide open for any musical talent, whether local or national, that wants to drop by. "The unique thing about this bar is that we're treating the bands real well," says manager Mike Cavanagh. "All the door money goes directly to the bands. And the sound is awesome in here."

Live music at Wyatt's is currently on a Thursday-through-Saturday roster; a Tuesday open-mike night will be added soon. The bar opens daily at 4 p.m., and all shows are 21-and-over only -- for now, anyway. "We don't have everything all figured out yet," Cavanagh says, "but we've been talking a lot, including the possibility of doing all-ages shows." Spring is in the air -- sort of -- and that means green dreams for everyone, especially the movers and shakers at Lime (1424 Larimer Street), who are now planting some seeds off I-25 and Belleview. The self-proclaimed "American cantina" should bear fruit -- a second modern-Mex eatery and bar -- in the Tech Center soon, but the exact location and opening date are still under wraps.
