Alleged drunk driver runs down pedestrian overnight at Havana and Exposition
The memorial sign dedication ceremony honoring Ah Zet Khan and Za May Khan, two children killed near 14th and Yosemite in a still unsolved March hit and run, is emblematic of numerous disturbing car-pedestrian incidents that have taken place on metro-area roadways of late. And now there's been another one.
Overnight, a man who'd just gotten off a bus was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver.
Here's the first tweet about the situation from the Denver Police Department Twitter account....
BREAKING: DPD is investigating Fatal Auto vs Ped at Havana & Exposition. Victim pronounced dead at Hospital. Victim was not in crosswalk.— Denver Police Dept (@DenverPolice) May 24, 2013
...and here's the second, tweeted within the hour:
UPDATE: On the Havana & Exposition Fatal accident the Ped was crossing mid block when he was struck. The driver was proceeded for DUI.— Denver Police Dept (@DenverPolice) May 24, 2013
More details come courtesy of 7News, which reports that the victim had just dismounted from a bus at around 3 a.m. and was heading across the street in the middle of the block along with several other departing passengers when he was hit. He was transported to an area hospital but couldn't be revived.
Neither the victim nor the driver under arrest has been identified at this early stage of the investigation.
