Shots Fired Outside Liquor Store, Three Taken to Hospitals

Aurora, Colo. -- On Thursday, January 21, 2010, shortly before 11pm, Aurora Police Officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired near the intersection of Montview Blvd and Dayton Street.

As information began pouring in, responding Officers learned that there were several victims who suffered injuries during the shooting. Officers located one of the three victims a couple blocks away in the area of 22nd Avenue and Emporia Street. Other Officers spotted a car matching the description of a vehicle that was seen leaving the scene of the shooting. Attempts to stop this vehicle were unsuccessful. Officers followed this vehicle to Children's Hospital and subsequently discovered that it contained two additional victims who were also suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers took steps to secure multiple crime scenes and began a preliminary investigation. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and personnel with the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit responded to the scene as well as the hospitals where the victims were taken and Aurora Police Headquarters.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an argument broke out involving a number of people near a liquor store located on the corner of Montview Blvd and Dayton Street. The argument escalated into a fight that ended in multiple shots being fired. Detectives believe that the shooter may have fled the scene in a tan 4-door Mercury Grand Marquis sedan (unknown license plate) and are asking that this information be broadcast in an effort to locate this vehicle.

Investigators will be working at the scene of the shooting throughout the night and into Friday. Their work will involve the collection of evidence, interviewing witnesses and tracking down leads in this case.

Police are not releasing the identity of the injured male victims.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call MCU Detective Matt Fyles at (303) 739 -6067.
