Sex-assault offenders are typically either known to their victims or are strangers to them. But seldom are they both at the same time -- which makes the circumstances of the crime for which nineteen-year-old Brandon William Johnson has been accused even weirder and more disturbing than it would be otherwise.

To whit: Johnson is said to have impersonated the boyfriend of a woman in order to assault her. Continue for the very odd details.

The story comes to us from the Fort Collins Coloradoan, which references an arrest affidavit filed in 8th Judicial District Court.

What happened? According to the document, a woman who lives out of state traveled to Fort Collins last month to visit her boyfriend -- and while she was in town, a house party took place at the west Fort Collins house where he lives.

During the bash, the woman downed four drinks. Then, at around 12:30 a.m., she headed to his room, curled up in his bed and went to sleep.

Some time after that, a guy climbed in with her. She asked if he was her boyfriend, and he answered "Yes."

Thus reassured, she went back to sleep, but not for long. She was startled back to consciousness when someone very much not her boyfriend was pulled off her.

Before long, suspicions turned toward Johnson, prompting the Fort Collins Police Department to go undercover -- although not in the manner Johnson allegedly did. A detective called him up and pretended to be the woman in question, and while the affidavit says he initially denied having attended the get-together, he later conceded that he'd come into her bedroom and acted like he was her BF -- including, in the Coloradoan's turn of phrase, "participating in some sex acts."

Johnson was subsequently charged with two counts of felony sexual assault by overcoming the victim's will. He's due in court next week, where he'll presumably be portraying himself in a lot of trouble.

Here's a larger look at his booking photo.
