When it comes to a series of incidents that took place in unincorporated Arapahoe County yesterday, tragedy followed tragedy followed tragedy.

First, a woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint.

Then, law enforcers speaking to the victim belatedly entered her apartment to find that a six-year-old boy had been stabbed to death, apparently by his father, who was found suffering from stab wounds that are thought to be self-inflicted.

And finally, Bill Foreman Jr., a deputy speeding to what was by then a homicide scene, was involved in a serious crash and is currently fighting for his life.

Thus far, the boy, the man, the woman and a two-year-old who was found unharmed at the scene haven't been identified.

However, the man is reportedly the father of both children, while the woman is mother to the two-year-old.

At 5:01 a.m. yesterday, February 9, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to 7540 East Harvard Avenue, an area captured in the following interactive graphic. If you have problems seeing the image, click "View on Google Maps."

The report: a sexual assault at knifepoint.

Upon their arrival, deputies found the victim at a neighbor's place. A call to 911 had been placed from there after she'd fled her apartment.

The interviews that followed took more than forty minutes. The deputies focused their attention on the woman rather than immediately going into the crime-scene apartment, which is said to have been quiet.

The ACSO adds that "it was unclear if the suspect was still in the apartment."

He was, as authorities learned when they made entry at 5:49 a.m.

Inside, they found a two-year-old male in a bedroom, unharmed.

But in another bedroom, deputies discovered the man, who was suffering from wounds that investigators believe he gave to himself, as well as the six-year-old.

The child had been stabbed to death.

Shortly thereafter, the survivors were raced to a nearby hospital and a call went out for additional units.

Among those responding was Deputy Foreman, a 25-year veteran of the sheriff's office.

At 5:55 a.m., Foreman was critically injured in an accident on the 8300 block of East Iliff Avenue.

He continues to fight for his life at this writing.

“We are providing all of the support we can at this difficult time to Deputy Foreman’s family, as well as our staff,” Arapahoe County Sheriff Dave Walcher said in a statement shared last night.

“His condition remains critical," Walcher went on, "but we are confident that he is getting the best care possible and we are thankful to the staff at the Medical Center of Aurora for their life-saving efforts. Seconds mattered, and we are grateful for the fast work of the personnel from the Cunningham Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department and Falck Ambulance. They worked to free Deputy Foreman from his vehicle and provided life-saving efforts while he was being transported to the hospital.”

At this writing, there have been no updates about the condition of either the man or the woman in the case.
