Victim of Homicide at Rocky Mountain Motel Identified

Lakewood Police detectives and the Jefferson County Coroner's Office have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred at the Rocky Mountain Motel, 6001 W. Colfax Ave.

The body of 31-year-old Danysha L. Turnbough was discovered in a room at the motel shortly before 7:00 yesterday, after police had been requested to conduct a welfare check at that location.

As a result of their investigation Lakewood detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Raymond Marcus Sandoval (06-18-79).

At about 5:45 PM, Sandoval was arrested in Oakley, Kansas by officers of the Oakley Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol. The arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between the Lakewood Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, and law enforcement officers in Kansas.

Lakewood detectives continue to investigate the homicide, but do not believe that there are any additional suspects.

Update, 6:58 a.m. March 1: The woman found dead at the Rocky Mountain Motel on West Colfax in Lakewood yesterday has not been publicly ID'd yet -- but there's already a man in custody on suspicion of first-degree murder. ARREST MADE IN HOMICIDE AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN MOTEL

Lakewood Police obtained an arrest warrant for Murder in the First Degree for Raymond Marcus Sandoval in connection with a homicide at the Rocky Mountain Motel, 6001 W. Colfax Ave. The body of an approximately 30 year old female was discovered in a room at the motel shortly before 7:00 AM on February 28, 2011.

At about 5:45 PM, Sandoval was arrested in Oakley, Kansas by officers of the Oakley Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol. The arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between the Lakewood Police Department, Colorado State Police, the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, and law enforcement officers in Kansas.

Lakewood Police continue to investigate the homicide, but do not believe that there are any other suspects.

Original item, 11:39 a.m. February 28: A woman thought to be in her twenties was found dead in a room at the Rocky Mountain Motel on West Colfax early this morning. SUSPICIOUS DEATH

At about 7:00 AM on February 28, 2011, Lakewood Police agents responded to the Rocky Mountain Motel, 6001 W. Colfax Ave., to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival they discovered a dead female in one of the motel rooms. The female is between 20-30 years old.

The investigation is ongoing. A cause of death has not yet been determined, but police are treating the case as a possible homicide. Anyone with information relating to this case is urged to call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
