Would the verdict have been different if jurors had known about the gay porn found on his computer?
According to Channel 4, Brock's school computer had been wiped -- but forensic analysis revealed "Internet searches of homosexual male pornographic Web sites, as well as evidence of viewed (pictures, movies and videos) related to homosexual male pornography. Additionally, actual images and videos of homosexual male pornography were recovered from the computer."
It's important to note that looking at pornography and engaging in illicit sexual activity are two very different things -- which is likely why the judge in the February case didn't allow the jury to hear any information about this discovery.
Nonetheless, the Brock case appears to be having repercussions at Silver State. The organization's president, Lester Heinze, sent out a letter to parents revealing that middle school and high school instruction will be dropped next year, leaving the school to concentrate on preschool through sixth grade students. He mentions the Brock investigation in the first paragraph.
Here's the text of the letter:
Dear Parents:This past year has been oneof the most difficult of my 20 years as President of Silver State Christian School, and I recognize it has been in many ways as challenging for you. Between the Daniel Brock investigation and trial, other disciplinary issues with students, and with uncertain economic times, we as an institution and as individuals have carried a heavy burden. I personally want to thank you for your commitment to the school, and I pray that as we head toward the end of the school year, you have seen fruit in your children that has validated the decision you made to keep them at Silver State.
Next year, we are making a significant change, which has been agreed upon by our leadership. Silver State will begin this fall offering only preschool through sixth grade.
Fortunately, our community has other options for Christian secondary education. For example, Beth Eden Baptist School is a close philosophical and theological match to Silver State. We are not creating a partnership with Beth Eden, but we are considering offering transportation from Silver State's campus to Beth Eden. Our desire is to assist families by providing an excellent elementary education at Silver State while helping those same families with children in the upper grades to continue a Christian secondary education.
Although this decision may be a disappointment to you, we must refocus Silver State on what it has for many decades done best: provide exemplary academics to young children in a Christian environment. We have a thriving elementary school thanks to families such as yours, and I think you will agree that we have a committed faculty whose guidance and expertise give young children academic success not seen in many schools. In fact, this academic strength is what brought many of you to Silver State -- to have your children reading strongly in kindergarten, learning cursive in second grade, and achieving higher test scores than other children their age -- all within a Christian environment that emphasizes character development, Biblically-based behavioral expectations, and a love of God.
Additionally, there will be an administrative change to meet the new focus of Silver State. As you will remember, Dennis Quattlebaum was brought on last fall as principal of our K-12 program. Because the school will now only be focused on the elementary level, we believe that there is another person better suited to administrate a K-6 school. We are excited to announce that long-term teacher Mr. Melvin Cacayorin will be serving as Silver State's new headmaster beginning at the end of this school year. Mr. Cacayorin has taught high school mathematics for more than 10 years at Silver State and his wife Charis is the elementary music and band teacher. He is well respected by the staff, is a gifted teacher, and has always pursued and produced excellence. I look forward to working closely with him to continue Silver State's quality education in the coming years.
You may have questions, and I welcome them. I am available to talk with you on the phone or in person to make sure those questions are addressed. Beginning March 16, I am specifically setting aside time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (March 16, 17 and 19) from 3:30 to 5:30 for meetings or phone calls. Please contact the school office at (303) 922-8850 to set up a time to meet or talk.
We look forward to a great 2010-2011 year at Silver State. We hope that you will join us by re-enrolling and teaming with us to education your child to honor God, love others, and walk in Biblical truth.
Most sincerely,
Lester A. Heinze President Silver State Christian School
