Last week, 37-year-old Laurie Teter was reported missing.

She disappeared after a fight with her boyfriend.

During the intervening days, a vigorous search was conducted for her in Morgan County, where she lived.

But now, in a development that echoes the grisly discovery of Maria Astorga's body, which was dumped off Interstate 70 last month, Teter been found dead, and law enforcers are now embroiled in a homicide investigation.

On September 3, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office announced that it was "attempting to locate a missing woman to check her welfare."

The MCSO revealed that she'd last been seen before noon the previous day, September 2, in an area northeast of Fort Morgan. She and her boyfriend had gotten involved in what was characterized as "an apparent physical fight."

The office also shared the photo above and made note of several of tattoos; a larger, uncropped version of the image appears at the bottom of this post.

The following morning, the sheriff's office posted an update, noting search areas north of the Platte River east of Highway 52, with a concentration on field roads, as well as unoccupied buildings and structures.

Then, late yesterday, the MCSO revealed that the worst fears about Teter had been realized. Her body was found near the intersection of County Roads U.5 and Road 24, a remote area captured in the following interactive graphic. If you have problems seeing the image, click "View on Google Maps."

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of Teter's death.

However, the sheriff's office notes that the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Thus far, Teter's boyfriend has not been identified, and neither has he, or anyone else, been named a suspect or a person of interest.

Folks with information about the case are encouraged to contact Investigator Shauna Ponce at 970-867-2461.

The MCSO concludes with this: "Our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Laurie’s family and friends."

We second these thoughts. Here's the uncropped version of the photo atop this post.

The sheriff’s office regrets to announce the body of Laurie Janae Teter, age 37, was discovered this afternoon, near the intersection of County Roads U.5 and Road 24. Laurie was reported missing one week ago and was reportedly last seen in this area following a fight with her boyfriend. Investigators and deputies have searched a number of areas and interviewed a number of people as part of this investigation up to and including today. Her death is being investigated as a homicide. Family notifications were made by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. Investigation continues by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office. Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Investigator Shauna Ponce at 970-867-2461. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Laurie’s family and friends.
