On the afternoon of Monday, November 24, 2008, Aurora Police received a request to check on the welfare of a woman living in the Winsor Court Apartments located at 10990 East 16th Avenue. Patrol officers went to the woman's apartment shortly after noon and discovered a deceased woman inside.

Major Crimes Unit detectives and Crime Scene Investigation Unit (CSI) personnel responded to the scene. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. As detectives began stepping through the investigative process, they saw evidence to indicate that the woman had been murdered. Detectives do not believe that the woman's death was an accident or a result of a serious medical condition.

Detectives learned during the course of the investigation that the woman's family and friends had not heard from her for several days and became concerned. A call was made to police who then went to the apartment and found the victim inside.

The woman, who appeared to be in her 30's, has not been identified at this time. Her identity is expected to be released some time after an autopsy is performed.

This investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Adams County Coroner's Office.
