John Mark Karr finally made it to Colorado yesterday, thanks to a Beech King Air turboprop that Governor Bill Owens sometimes uses -- and for connoisseurs of foolish media behavior, the way he got here was half the fun. As documented in this amusing Rocky Mountain News article, much of the media that's been camped out in Boulder assumed Karr's flight was destined for Boulder Municipal Airport, only to discover too late that he'd actually be touching down at Jefferson County Airport, ten miles away. Most of the cable networks apparently guessed right, though, because the plane's arrival earned more airtime than the typical Space Shuttle landing.

KHOW talk-show hosts Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman were on top of things as well -- to a ridiculous degree. The pair followed Karr's progress from California to Jeffco mile by mile, as if they were tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

The difference? The children of the world wouldn't want what Karr has to give them. Nor would the rest of us.-- Michael Roberts
