Rose Hammes: Body positively identified as missing teen lost in flood
Update: A body found in Colorado Springs has been positively identified as Rose Hammes, seventeen. Our sincere condolences to her friends, family and loved ones. See our previous coverage below.
Update, 6:38 a.m. August 13: Yesterday, we told you about a piece of good news that emerged after Friday flooding in Manitou Springs took one life and caused tremendous damage: Laura Hunter, who'd been swept away in the torrent, survived the ordeal....
Look below for video evidence of her resilience, as well as our previous coverage. Unfortunately, though, a new tragedy arrived after another round of flooding, this time in Colorado Springs.
A body has been found, and while the victim hasn't been identified yet, police have called off the search for a missing teen, Rose Hammes, seen here.
Twelve hours ago, the Facebook page of KKTV in the Springs shared viewer Jenna Huntsman's photo of flooding on Powers Boulevard -- an image that offers an indication of the latest storm's strength:

Then, about eight hours ago at this writing, the station posted this notice:
Please share: Springs police and fire crews searching right now for 16-year-old Rose Hammes. Her mom told us she was out on a walk this afternoon when the storms hit. Her mom says she was seeking shelter under a bridge near Radiant Church off Maizeland and Academy. Please be on the lookout if you are in that area.
Accompanying the text was this photo of Hammes, who's now said to be seventeen....
...followed by a more recent one:
Then, earlier this morning, came this update:
BREAKING: Police confirm that they have called off the search for missing teen Rose Hammes. A body was recovered in a creek near Platte and Wooten, but has NOT been positively ID'd at this time.
Prior to the discovery, Rose's father, Roman Hammes, spoke to 7News. He said Rose had gone out for a walk at around 3 p.m. yesterday and called her mom after the storm broke. When her mom asked if she wanted her to pick her up, Rose told her, "No, I'll go under the bridge."
Our hearts go out to the entire Hammes family (she's the second oldest of seven kids), as well as her friends and loved ones.
A far more positive 7News story revolves around Hunter, who spoke to the press yesterday from her hospital bed. Here's that clip, followed by our previous coverage.
Update, 11:24 a.m. August 12: Friday's flash flood in Manitou Springs is hardly an upbeat story; it' took the life of John Collins, 53, and caused an enormous amount of damage and disruption to the community. But moments ago, some good news broke: The woman reported missing in the wake of the flood has been found, and she's very much alive.
According to 7News, Hunter was being treated at local Penrose Hospital, and she's apparently in good enough shape that she'll be speaking with the media at 3 p.m. today.
Continue for our previous coverage, featuring videos shot by other survivors of the storm.
Original post, 9:50 a.m. August 12: A story's got to be big to relegate a brutal double-homicide like the one that's resulted in an arrest warrant for Gary Vigil to secondary status. But that was the case with the shocking flash flood that swept through Manitou Springs beginning on Friday afternoon. John Collins, 53, died in the torrent, and a woman last seen clinging to a tree remains missing. Some of the most vivid footage of the flood was captured by folks who experienced the rushing waters firsthand. Look below to see a collection of videos from those fortunate enough to survive the storm.
