Sad pay phone of the week: The pay phone at 25th and Washington
Location: 25th and Washington.
Cost: 50 cents for local calls.
Photo taken: 2:45 p.m. on March 31.
With no buildings, walls, or fences around it, this pay phone, located near Denver Fire Department No. 3, stands completely exposed to the elements and it shows.
The gale force winds that were blowing on the day the photo below was taken put the phone to the ultimate test Mother Nature has to offer.
Okay, so it wasn't that extreme -- but it was really freaking windy regardless.
This phone wouldn't even qualify for an entry in our collection if it didn't come with the standard graffiti, smudges and the sort of grime that's keeping Purell in business.
Otherwise, the phone looks rather quaint standing in near the fire station's lawn. Those were the days.
