Update: Earlier today, we told you about a missing persons report issued by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office in regard to Ashley Doolittle, an eighteen-year-old from Berthoud. Contained at the same time were details about a second missing individual: Tanner Flores, also eighteen, who was said to have been upset over a breakup with Doolittle and was possibly armed. See our previous coverage below.

Moments ago, the LCSO issued shocking and tragic new information about the case.

Flores has been located and is under arrest — and a thus-far-unidentified deceased young woman was found in his truck.

At first light, according to the sheriff's office, Larimer County authorities launched a search near Lon Hagler Reservoir, where Doolittle's own vehicle was found abandoned last night.

Then, at around 8 a.m., investigators learned that Tanner's truck had been spotted in unincorporated Mesa County, not far from Collbran; that's an area associated with the Grand Mesa.

At the request of Larimer County officials, Mesa County Sheriff's Office deputies and other personnel located the truck, recovered the body of "a young adult female" and took Flores into custody, where he's being held on thus-far-unspecified charges.

The Mesa County coroner's office will release the identity of the victim, as well as the cause of death, "at a later time," the LCSO notes.

No booking photo is available at this time. Continue for our previous coverage of this heartbreaking case.

Original post, 5:19 a.m.: There's plenty that's unusual regarding the missing-persons report issued about Ashley Doolittle by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

First, there's the timing of the release: 4:48 a.m. today, Friday, June 10.

Second, there's the relatively brief amount of time she's been gone. The eighteen-year-old from Berthoud was due back last night, June 9, at 7:30 p.m.

And finally, there's the information about another missing person — Doolittle's former boyfriend, Tanner Flores, also eighteen — and word that he was distraught over their breakup and may be armed.

The pair's split is not yet noted on Facebook. Indeed, this image from May....

Neither image speaks to the alarm being felt by Doolittle's family members, who contacted authorities at around 7:55 p.m. last night.

According to the LCSO, her loved ones were so concerned when she didn't return by a promised 7:30 p.m. time that they began searching the area for her — and found her unoccupied vehicle near Lon Hagler Reservoir.

Deputies quickly responded and were told that Doolittle had recently broken things off with Flores after a year as an item.

Before long, sheriff's-office reps learned that Flores was gone as well.

He was last seen at about 3:30 p.m. on the afternoon of the 9th, four hours before Doolittle was due to return.

"It was reported that Tanner was upset and distraught over the recent breakup," the sheriff's office release states, adding, "Investigators also have information to believe Tanner may be armed with a handgun."

The sheriff's office is distributing three photographs in connection with the case — this image of Doolittle....

Note: An earlier version of this post misidentified the person in the photo with Ashley Doolittle at the top of this post as Tanner Flores, based on the original image of him sent out by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. It's actually her brother. We've corrected the text to make that clear.
